It's not up the low men/women on the totem pole working in PSD bud... It's the Sheriff. CDCR employees are go through an 832PC with firearm academy no need for CCW so long as you have the appropriate verbage on your credentials and you qualify to maintain per your departments policy...

Ok bud. But as I said before, it shouldn't matter where you work or what you do. If you are not a felon, reside in SJC, and can buy a gun there is no reason for denial. Period. The only dog I have in this fight is me. The guy in the post above shared his buddy's story and it sounded like he got screwed over for no good reason. And for whatever reason, he apparently did not have whatever credentials you are mentioning, so applying for a CCW doesn't seem unreasonable. Getting denied does.

It's pretty easy to file a complaint or actually get a one on one with the Sheriff if you disagree with his decision... If you're department is not issuing you the proper credentials to carry a firearm, there is probably a reason. A peace officer needs to go through their own department for the appropriate credentials ...Now if you are a correctional officer without firearm 832 qualification that is a different story but I know for fact that is not the case with CDCR...

Just had my first phone contact. I had my interview and fingerprinting on June 1st of last year, and finally was contacted June 1st of this year. He asked me a few questions (including regarding an illegal u turn I made when I was 17 lol). He also needed a copy of the firearms policy from my employer. Which I just emailed him. I have a very, very stupid DUI from within a week of me turning 21. 7 years without any issues though, which he said can work in my favor. However he did mention that the DUI is a big deal. Oh and he asked me if I ever had a Marijuana card.

All I can say is that if their is nothing stating that I'm an addict of any substance, nothing stating that I am a violent person, there is no felonies, I am able to obtain firearms in this state, and I live in this county... there should be no reason left why I am denied.

Wow... They really brought up stuff from when you were 17 ? That's crazy. I did a lot of crazy things before I turned 18 and I'm 45 now... I hope they don't hold that stuff against me especially since I didn't list it on my application. Every answer on the application said within the last five years...

Stuff from 10 plus years ago? My record went back 30-40 years. Had an interview with Sheriff Moore to explain all that. Was approved 2 days later.

After a year I finally had the background investigator call me. Nice guy for sure, he completed my folder and sent it up the chain, said I should hear something in a few weeks. Anyone know approximately how long from this point until I hear if I'm officially approved and to take in proof of training?

It took about 1-2 weeks after the investigator called me to be approved. I actually was going to call them and asked but figured I waited most of a year I can wait just a little longer to call them; a day later they called.

Just hang on for a little bit, I mean you waited a year already. At least it's moving forward.

Well it's good to hear that it may actually just be weeks more of waiting. My thoughts exactly, I've already waited a year. I just hope for the best and prepare for the worst, almost there. Thanks

I have read some get approved sooner and some approved later.

After the call, I told my wife now I either get a letter or another call. Thank god it was a call. Lol

Scheduled for application drop on monday. Question: on the application at the background convictions section. Does this section required to include minor misdemeanors etc? Any tips for the interview?
