Interview went smooth, my DL address matched my application address so they didn't ask for anything else as proof of residency. No issues on my app. No criminal history, arrests, DUI's, restraining orders, moving violations, etc.. He said it should go smooth and I should hear from them in about 3 months unless there is something I am hiding, which I'm not.

Similar for me. I have a PO Box on my DL so I brought in a DMV driving record printout which has your residence listed along with a notarized copy of the deed for my house which has the county clerk's raised seal on it. No problems.

Had my appt yesterday and dropped off the application, livescan, etc. While I was sitting in the lobby I overheard the two receptionists talking about all the calls they are getting from people asking where they are in the process. They really are backed up, there are only two background investigators right now and they are both only part-time. They say they are looking to hire though, so if you know someone...

Moral of the story is: if you don't absolutely need to call, don't. All it is doing is taking up more of their time to get the backgrounds done. I even asked them if I should call in 8 weeks like the nice man who took my fingerprints told me to, and they both replied with a resounding, "NO! We will call You."

Lol. He told me the same thing and I was also thinking it was bad advice.

I get that they're backed up, but how does calling the receptionist affect the background investigators' ability to do their job in a timely manner? I'm sure it sucks to answer that question 50 times a day, but if it sucks that bad, they need to complain about it & push the Sheriff to hire more investigators.

From the people that have called in, it sounds like they've been working on backgrounds for the first week of April for 4-6 weeks. Since this won't stop anytime in the foreseeable future, I can't understand why they only have 2 investigators, let alone part time.

I really think they messed up by opening up more interview dates. I called in February and got my appointment for the end of April. In the meantime they opened up appointments all over the place and let in a lot of folks ahead of me and quite a few other folks I am sure. If the plan was to only have two part time investigators, they should have stuck with their Wednesday only appointments. I was in no rush for my appointment as I was waiting my turn to SSE a Shield.

No doubt. But at that point in time is was all about Sheriff Moore securing as many re-election votes as possible and beating his opponent who was using CCW permits as a major part of his campaign.

It's also a bit frustrating to hear that they are working on "hiring" more investigators when the ones they have are working part time. Why not hire those investigators full time? I guess there is the chance that they are retired LEO and not interested in full time hours.

I just hope they speed up the process, catch up on the back log, and continue to issue permits to us law-abiding SJC residents.

I got to pick up my CCW the other day. It has no restrictions on it. I have two of the three weapons SSE. They were very nice. I had to wait a while because one the the weapons was new and they had to run the numbers. They also had to use witeout due to messing up something on it, but all said and done I have it.

The receptionist was very nice. She got a couple of calls asking for a status update from people waiting for their CCW. She said she does not mind people calling but is tired of people giving her a hard time and being rude to her as well as people that are calling every couple days. She said they are processing them as fast as they can given their staffing which they (those actually working on the CCW's) have no control over. She said they are going in the order the applications were received unless one is held up by DOJ letters which she says happens to some people. She told me that her dad applied on April 16th and is still waiting as well. I guess my point is that I really do not believe these people are to blame and it is not fair to get on their case. They are not the ones that we need to be pushing.

I called one time about 6 weeks ago (8 weeks after my interview) and haven't called back since. I just check this thread every couple days to see what all the frequent callers are being told...

I recently had to set up a corporation - the Secretary of State has a page on their website that lets you know where they're at on processing. It basically says "Currently processing filings received on X/XX". I think the SO could save a lot of time if they put something similar on their site. Wouldn't even have to be updated every day - just something saying "We're currently processing applications from interviews the week of .... "

Called the PSD today to check on my permit, my interview was on 4/14.

"...we are still working on the beginning of April..."

When I asked where specifically that would be in April, she said April 9th. Anyone find it funny that they've been saying April 9th for a few weeks now?

                          Standby to standby I guess.

Good luck to all of you waiting for approval on your CCW permits. It was 4 months and 3 days to get mine. Interestingly, in conversation with the investigator, the subject came up about what would likely happen should the law change. Not only would the sheriff stop issuance but those people that obtained their permit with a self defense/protection GC, would likely have their permits revoked. He made it sound like that was a real probability. In other words, he that giveth can taketh away. That would really be disappointing but not altogether surprising.
