I need to do the 16 hour training course. Anyone have a good suggestion for the Tracy area?

Applied 2/28. Called them and left a voice-mail. They got back to me a few days later, and apparently they tried to get a hold of me to tell me I was APPROVED but my phone wasn't working. Weird, but anyways I am good to go.

That would be a non issue. There are people that have been pulled over for speeding and gotten their permit including me. It was the only ticket I have ever had. The officer pointed to it on my ap and asked me "what's with this". I said, "I had a lot on my mind, got going a little faster than I realized, and got caught." He kind of chuckled and didn't say anything.

I did not realize that they are looking for every contact you have had with the SJSO. I have called them on more than one occasion mostly for vandalism and trespassing issues.

Thank God we don't have to get the sheriff's permission to purchase a firearm like some countries do .The delays and subjective nature of granting ccw's goes deeper than just the permit . It shows what power can do to people in elected office .So many things that can affect your getting a ccw you have no control over . Anyone ever been through a nasty divorce or had a neighbor you don't get along with could mean a no issue of a permit .All felonies and misdemeanor with a gun prohibtation will come up on a D.O.J. background . What more do they need

I do know they are not just looking at arrest records, they are also reviewing any and all contacts that you have had with SJSD (not sure outside SJC). So even police reports that never turned into arrests (disturbances with family, neighbors, etc). Anytime you or someone else called them if your name is associated with that report they are investigating it.

I can't speak to why the process has taken 6+ months for many that is another matter.

You can have things on your record that will not stop you from buying a firearm, but that may throw up red flags as far as getting a CCW is concerned. A misdemeanor on your record would not stop you from purchasing a firearm, but depending on the crime, the Sheriff may determine that it may be enough to deny you.

Like to here about other people's interview. When the investigater interviewed me when I turned I. My ap it seemed pertty thorough . Ask why I wanted permit and the responsibility of having one etc. It seems it should not take any time to run my name through the computer and see if I have a criminal record they can do it in 10 days when I buy a pistol .What more are they looking at ? If you are of good moral caricature to buy a pistol what more do you need to carry one ?

Reply to 209Brent thanks for the update hope yours comes through soon . But have to wonder the sheriff is making sure the background are thorough now what were they before during the election not thorough? Also if they are finding people with criminal record that prevent them from owning a gun I sure hope they are going after them

Yes, they're definitely only issuing Tuesday and Wednesday so that they have the rest of the week to do investigations. I was in last week to do a modification on my permit and had a good talk with one of the investigators. They're just as frustrated as everyone else with the slow pace but are doing the best they can. They've hired an additional person and are making scheduling changes (like the Tuesday/Wednesday rule) to improve their efficiency. They're also being required by the Sheriff to do very thorough background investigations, which I don't have a problem with. He shared that they've had several people apply who had criminal records - even arrests in the last few months. Obviously those are easier to filter out but there have apparently been several denials for good reasons that were harder to find. I personally am good with that - there are a lot of people that I would just as soon not have carrying a gun.

Be patient - they'll get to you!
