Thanks. I had a feeling it will probably take close to the max time, how did it go having your employer return their paperwork from the investigator.

On a different note, I thought it was odd that I was told it was not a good idea to carry in other states because CA dosnt have reciprocity with anyone.

90 Day max for Livescan, so I'm guessing that's where the bottle neck is for my application. Hoping it clears up soon. Funny story about my employer, apparently they received and sent it back rather quickly. I only knew about this because I quit that job, and called in to report change of employment. They told me they already received verification from the former employer and just took down the info for the new employer. Didn't need to re-verify.

For carrying in other states, you just have to have the appropriate licenses to carry in those states. There are a few available to out-of-state non-residents that cover a good number of the country.

On reciprocity I am well aware of how that works out. It was just odd that they said don't bother carrying in other states because you don't want to be in jail...most every state that I would care to visit other then Wyoming and Colorado accept CA CCW

Everything is CYA. They don't want to be caught endorsing anything. They also don't want a phone call from a neighboring state that doesn't accept it and you got caught. Remember the last on the east coast that got caught and arrested? She got pulled over in Jersey and notified the cops and got hooked.

Make sure you research whatever states laws you are traveling through and do it right before going because things change. Also because things change then get as many CCW's as you can. I currently have five and will add to that any chance I get.

So do I just go to the sheriff's department, walk up to the front desk, and ask for a concealed carry application?

Nvm. I see that the application is online.

Sorry for all the questions but how long should the good cause statement be?

It doesn't matter "how long" it is.

You just need to articulate whatever your good cause is.

"I want to carry a gun for personal protection / self defense of myself, wife, kids, dog, gerbil.
I'm living in a rural area, I drive through Highland, I shop at Wal-Mart, etc.
Because of AB 109 and Prop 47 there are more criminals in the County and they all seemed to have moved into my neighborhood...

Just say whatever your own personal reasons are.
SB is looking for reasons TO issue permits, not for reasons not to.
I really wouldn't over think it to much.

Well, SmokinMr., I wouldn't put it that way. If they really were looking for reasons to issue a permit a simple "for self defense" would do, and they wouldn't have all the stuff that goes beyond what the law requires, such as neighborhood interviews, contacting the local PDs of all the places that you've ever lived, letting your employee know, etc. They could be more streamlined, like say, Sacramento.

Daeji5, I would just think of two or three of the most worrisome scenarios for you to want to carry and go from there. A couple of sentences should suffice.

BTW, Smokin, did you ever get to ask why do they have that policy of letting your employee know that you're applying to carry a gun?

Hope Calplinker won't mind.....regarding THE "GOOD CAUSE"....
This is somewhat I wrote on my application letter and the officer who did my papers sts "it seems you covered everything".....

Regarding "Good Cause" to carry a gun, in our county, the desire to protect yourself is all that is needed.*There is no threshold you need to meet to be approved.*Ignore people who tell you otherwise. What they will ask is you don't simply write, "personal protection", which in the old days used to be all we wrote. They now ask that you write one or two paragraphs to round out why you think you need to protect yourself and/or family.*

Simply stating that crimes against people are on the rise, coupled with court ordered early release of criminals makes for a dangerous environment is more than enough. You might also add that we do not get to choose the time and place where will be assaulted. Being prepared and ready to defend yourself at all times is unfortunately necessary in todays world.*

Key thing to remember is that you must be able to articulate and justify your good cause statement. Regurgitating it during the interview is not sufficient. Don't worry about being politically correct during the interview either; speak your mind. I was trying to be during mine but Detective Logan told me to just open up.

They're looking for reasons to issue a CCW vs. not to, so be honest with them.

I haven't had a chance to discuss it yet.
Personally I'd rather they not tell an employer why, or if anything (if they must) tell them it's for a security clearance which would technically be true.

My background investigator didn't even seem to go over my good cause statement, nor did he ask about it. I thought that was kind of weird.
