Is "personal protection" still accepted as GC in SB County? I live in Big Bear and need protection for my family from any number of multiple leg animals.

      It is.

But, they want you to put down more than 2 words.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

You just have to articulate it in more than a couple of words. Mine was about 4 sentences. You can probably (I'm not an expert) talk about being remote areas (hiking, fishing?) where cell coverage is spotty and needing to protect against wildlife.

The detective helping another gentleman, when I was getting mine, coached him a bit on the statement. They really do want you to have one in this county so don't worry too much, just write a couple of sentences and you will be fine.

Just wanted to share my time line if any one is searching for this info, as I did A LOT.

10-1-2019 - moved to SB county.
10-4-2019 - App submitted online. Interview scheduling online wasn't working so I called the CCW office and left a msg. Had to wait till first utility bill arrived to schedule interview they said.
11-05-2019 - called back to schedule interview.
          11-17-2019 - Interview
1-31-2020 - call to schedule range day
          3-21-2020 - range day

A lot longer from interview to scheduling range date than most it seems, I'm assuming the holidays played a role in this. Plus a friend works the department and he said they are just swamped at the CCW office. All in all, I'm super happy about the process and the fact that I longer live in LA County.

I think the hold up is the Live Scan. That's a state thing the sheriff has no control over.

They pretty much told me what to say (repeat what the interviewing LEO was alluding to) during the interview after he read over my GC. “For self protection...from whom....it starts with a c......” lol

5 months with just moving! That's with the delay of waiting for my first utility bill, I'd say that's better than ain't bad.

During your range day class, all your handguns you want to get listed on your permit will be inspected.
The deputies will primarly just function check the handguns. Checking that all the levers/buttons work and dry fire to check trigger pull/function.

They don't care about any cosmetic changes or stippling or functional aftermarket parts or it having a light/laser/optic installed.

                        However...
If your handgun has a less than 3lb trigger pull, then it will get rejected.
If your handgun fails to function during the live fire portion, then it will get rejected.
If your handgun is not configured to exatly match it's AFS record (serial number, action type, caliber, barrel length), then it will get rejected.
If your handgun is configured to be a prohibited weapon (assault weapon, SBR/SBS, etc), then it will get rejected and you will be arrested.

That slide was shown in my class 3 years ago. Thing is not all of the trainers will show it. In my brothers class 3 years ago it was not.

My trainer encouraged everyone to do what they could to be more proficient with their firearms. This included training, practice and a better trigger.
