      Thanks. Here's another question...

I had previously filled out the application and been given an interview date, this was a couple years ago, but I was unavoidably unable to get to it.

Now I am on the application page, just filled everything out, and it says that my SSN is already in the database and won't let me submit the application. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it? Thanks.

They already started a file for you it would appear.
        Call on Monday.
I would guess they will give you an appointment date and tell you to print it out and bring it in then.

Well folks, ten days after expiration and my renewal still not here. The only answer I can get from the SBSD is they have "no idea when it will be processed." I made three trips from Big Bear to the station, paid all my money orders on time, did all my paperwork and classes early on in the time window.

I strongly recommend that you keep whatever guns you have on your permit as is and don't modify them if you actually carry and care whether or not your renewal is done by the time your old one expires. This is pretty messed up IMO.

Well that's not good. I am going to change a gun on my permit. And like you I carry everyday.

              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

UPDATE: I got in touch with Sarah today and they still have not processed range cards from 1/2/19 and some even before. She said hopefully soon but cannot promise anything... shorthanded. So I asked her if I could just get my permit with the original guns. Yup. She processed my card and I went and picked it up today. So, my advice is that if you want your renewal processed promptly it's best to stick with what you have. My Glock 19 is back on my hip where it belongs.

FWIW the best way to contact them is by e-mail. Sarah is very helpful, the rest of the office there is hit and miss.

                  Well crap.

And thanks for the heads up. Looks like I won't be going to the on Saturday.

Yeah, I mean who knows... but buyer beware.

I had on my permit a G43, a G19, and my full size Colt 1911 which I carried exactly twice in two years. I was swapping it out for a commander size Kimber Raptor which I have to be honest I probably wouldn't carry much either. Faced with the prospect of waiting a couple more weeks or longer, I just decided to stick with status quo.

When I get to Tennessee I'll carry the Kimber and/or whatever else I want.

I'm in the same boat. I have my Smith and Wesson 908 on my permit that I've carried exactly twice. I was going to swap it out for my new to me Charter Arms Off Duty.

I guess I can wait until next time.

I'll admit that (for me) the Raptor was pretty much a vanity thing. For the days you're hanging with some buddies and just want to have the cool gun for fat-chewing purposes. I think a good case can be made that all the guns you carry are of the same format and for me it's tough to argue against the "draw the gun and pull the trigger" simplicity of a Glock.

Those are all choices we have to make on our own, but I know carrying NO gun like I did the last two weeks was the worst of all options.

Pleasantly surprised. I had to call in to clear an old appointment I wasn't able to get to, fully expected to wait several months for a new interview appointment. Lucky me, they had a cancellation for April 30th!

Nice. Make sure you have everything in order...

What did you list as a good cause?

This application was from a couple years ago, I believe I put something to the effect of "Protecting myself, my family, and others." When I thought I was going to have to submit a new app, I was going to cite the statistics available in the county Community Indicators Report showing a 60% rise in violent crimes and state that the ability to defend oneself was critical both in urban areas where such attacks are more likely, and in rural areas where LE response may be delayed.

That sounds good. Perhaps adding that you feel new laws and policies releasing criminals into your area early etc... That seems to be helpful. Mentioning AB 109 and Prop 47.

The interviewing deputies IME are very helpful with tailoring your GC statement at the interview.
