The training SBCS provides is a class followed by range qualifications. There's no actual training on how to use a firearm. Is on you to make sure you actually know how to use a firearm.

      This.

It is not like Sacramento, OC, and other counties that require 3rd-party training.
The county is operating under the assumption that if you are applying for a permit, that you are confident in your competence at handing it.

The county training is all you *need* to pass, but I strongly urge you to at the very least, take the NRA Defensive Handgun class. It's about $100 and is a real eye-opener for someone who has never shot competitively under a shot timer. You'll shoot about 300 rounds at that class.

The CCW class is 25% basic "what to do if", 25% legal discussion, 45% waiting for your turn to shoot, and 5% shooting. Renewal every 2 years is a 4-hour class, no additional qualification unless you want to add a different gun.

"Qualification" is being able to get 8 out of 10 shots into the upper central torso of a person-sized target at 5 yards.

You will need 2 magazines per gun.
I'd suggest 3 if you have a magazine disconnect like the Kahr or Shield, as they will test the trigger pull and basic operation, if they need a magazine for inspection, bringing a 3rd one will allow you to pre-load 5 rounds into the two you will use on the line.

a specified course of training prior to the issuance of a new or renewal permit."
I was wondering if it is just required to only take the class provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office, or are there other classes I need to take prior to this. If so could I get any recommendations, even if its not required because I know it is still a good idea to get proper training.
You're right, although its not required, it's helpful to can get additional training that is specific for your CCW prior to your range date. This is especially true if you are relatively new to shooting.

Apple Valley Gun Club has a CCW class the second Tuesday of each month. Firearms Training Associates in Corona also periodically offers CCW classes. While not right next door, both are close enough to Joshua Tree to be realistic possibilities.

AVGC's is specific for San Bernardino County, whereas FTA's, I believe, is aimed more at Orange County requirements.

I have a question. I moved out of state which automatically makes my San Bernardino ccw null and void. I didn't tell them I moved due to the "out of state" part, null and void anyway. About 10-11 months later I get an irate phone call from the detective at the ccw counter. I've dealt with her before when the officer at the range day part screwed up my serial # for my gun. Then she berated me on how I should've checked it... this and that... they kept the paper so I couldn't check it. She has a major ego issue for sure. This call was no different, she was extremely curt and rude. not that she need to be nice but I told her the issue and she kept going. So she threatened revocation, I told her ok I don't live there and not moving back. Called the bluff... she kept being all pissy and extremely unprofessional. I told her to relax, I'm talking to her with respect and courtesy and I require the same. She kept on with the pissy *****y attitude. Again threatened revocation so I said ok do it, I DO NOT LIVE IN THE STATE, do you understand? She said well you signed the papers and I said ok the 50 copies of who knows what over and over papers? I said as far as I understand if I moved counties I needed to let you know but I moved out of state... out of state! She threatened to send the local pd to my house and get it. After all the attitude and garbage from this lady I said ok send them, just get back to me what kind of coffee they like and I'll have a cup waiting for them. She didn't like that and said just mail it. I said I would if I could find it but no guarantees. Like I said as far as I knew it was void so didn't carry it around and could care less where it is. After this phone call I called my local sheriff where my ccw is out of in the new state and they said they have no jurisdiction here and was sorry to hear I was having such a hard time with this lady and wouldn't effect my current ccw. My question is now I've received a letter about this from her down in Cali and demanding I turn it in. I don't have it but sounds like a pissing contest with her now. My question after all that rambling is: is there any kind of penalty to this other than just revocation? Not really too worried due to living out of state now and taking to current sheriff in the county I live but they also stated they weren't lawyers disclaimer too... thanks for any feedback.

            1) It doesn't matter if you move 2 blocks or 2,000+ miles you are required to notify the IA you moved.
            2) If you had done so your permit would have been cancelled after 90 days.
            3) You now have to answer YES if asked if you have ever had a permit revoked.

Pissy or not she was right and you were wrong.

After talking to her on the phone either way seemed like a lose lose anyway. Really sure she was going to revoke it anyway even if I would've had it to send in. Just asking, thanks for your opinion. After talking to the sheriff's around here it won't be a prob answering yes esp with the explanation of "I moved out of state".

Getting ready for my upcoming interview.

On the list of documents to bring, it says they want an original utility bill. I get all my bills electronically. Will they accept a PDF home-printed version of my bill?

                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Make sure you have all your paperwork together.

My buddy missed his interview trying to gather up the last bit of paperwork. Sarah got him a new appointment but he's still waiting for that day to come.

#1 reason for denial is monkey business with residency
#1 reason for delays is incomplete or missing paperwork.

Utilities must be CURRENT... they do not accept a bill showing a past-due balance, so pay your utilities ahead starting 60 days before your interview.

30 days before your interview, go through the application package and make sure that you have everything that you need that doesn't have to be 30-days current.
That'll generally give you time to resolve any potential issues, though if you were born in LA County before 1964 and need your certified birth certificate, it's going to take 6-8 weeks, after 1964 they can print it while you wait.

2 weeks before, collect utility bills and make sure that your rent/lease/tax documents are the most current. Double-check again at 5 days for new utility bills.
