Yep... I'm planning on changing 2 of mine at renewal.
When you drop off the application, you let them know that you'd like a modification, and they give you a range card.
Seems that these are usually scheduled for weekdays, so there is not the long waiting time that there is for the original applicants.

A couple of people reported that they qualified, then took their class a week or two later and their permits were available at the end of class.

It must be registered, and the caliber and configuration must match the registered information.

SB doesn't care if it's off-roster or even if it was purchased through SSE, but the information in AFS must match.
For SSE guns, the easiest way to go is to "launder" them by doing a pawn-and-return... the new DROS from the pawn shop back to you updates the registry with the new information.

80%, particularly polymer, may be a problem, given that it is not technically possible to serialize a polymer lower to BATFE specs.
BATFE does not require the stupid 3.7oz plate that California will next year, but they do require that the serial number be engraved on a stainless plate that can not be removed.

There's also the civil liability issues.
While SB does not prohibit modifications, they caution against work being done by "Bubba with a Dremel" and recommend that anything other than routine cleaning be performed by a qualified gunsmith.
This is to protect you in civil court... the DA couldn't care less as long as it's a good shoot... but I can see the attorney for the dirtbag that you shot really dragging you through the mud over your "amateur home made plastic gun"

I took the day off hoping to be able to get it. I was in Chino but I had to go home, switch cars, get my cash and head to the post office to get my money order.

Of course since it was Friday traffic sucked. I didn't feel good until I hit the 215.

If I hadn't taken the day off I would have never made it.

          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

yeah i gotcha the new version of the polymer80's have the stainless plate now. Sounds like a bad idea on the court room deuschebaggery side of things though. Thanks for the input.

Because of CA unsafe handgun laws...
In order to legally make the "80%" into a handgun, it needs to be a dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistol or break-top single-shot pistol (SSE2).
If you make the "80%" into a semi-auto pistol, then you would be making an unsafe handgun. Attempting to register it, would then document this.

CA marking requirements will require a polymer receiver to have a 3.7oz steel plate for engravings.
The stainless steel plate in the new ploymer80s does not meet CA's 3.7oz weight requirement.

SBSD requires handguns to be registered in CLETS-AFS and the handguns must exactly match what it is registered as (make, model, caliber, serial number).

If you make/register a SSE2 pistol and try to list it as a semi-auto pistol on your permit, then SBSD will reject it. Because, CLETS-AFS will show it as a single-shot pistol (not a semi-auto pistol).

Yep. On the other hand, you can cross that imaginary dotted line at the Colorado river and carry a wagon full of 'em down the street with 33 round mags hanging out the bottom. But think how much safer you are here.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

I really think the leadership here has just gone completely off the rails!
