Having set my appointment for initial interview last August, and despite numerous (unsuccessful) attempts to snag a better appointment in the interim, I am finally within striking distance. My appointment is in about 2 weeks.

I still think Sheriff Jone's policy and practice violate the law and the lawsuit settlement (not just the "slack" he got on GMC but this farce of denial by delay). Sac is clearly NOT the win that some have tried to portray it to be.

On a lighter note, I reached out to Amber since I could not find the date/time (having been set almost a year ago). I sent her an email and she responded with the info within less than 2 minutes. I sent an immediate thank you for the quick response and she sent an immediate your welcome.

Here's hoping that the right people will deal with Sheriff Jones about his recalcitrance. Hey - maybe we should suggest that Amber be put in charge of the entire program? No telling how much progress might be made if the person in charge believed in efficient, courteous service to the public.

Did you ever find out the answer to this question? I am in the same boat. I would like to change out pistols since I got a new one anyway and my current permit will not expire until feb 2013 but i would like to go and qualify on it and the rest of my pistols and then kill 2 birds with one sot me, but I don't know how "early we can renew".

If you want to modify your weapons, you don't have to wait until renewal. You can go qualify (you have to qualify on ALL guns you want on the updated permit), then get a modification appointment to get your permit updated.

I understand this, but i don't want to have to pay twice. I would much rather go and qualify on the new pistol but then requal on my existing pistols and that way i only have to pay one time for requal and then to renew permit at the same time. I have done a modification once already but i thought since my renewal was getting closer that I could knock out both in one Chuck Norris style punch.

No offense to any on this forum, but I think it best to go to the source. Rather than speculate, I'd either send Amber an e-mail with your question or call her directly. She is very approachable and will have all the answers.

FYI: the SSD is now requiring two forms of proof of residency.

Wow - my appointment is tomorrow morning. Thanks for posting that. I was already gonna bring my passport....

I assume CDL is one form.

                Utility bill good for #2?

In which case, no one should have ever suggested that Sac is "virtual" shall issue. Which doesn't even begin to address the denial by delay that is the current status quo

Just learned the hard way that they take your CDL from you when you show up. Bring 2 utility bills....passport is no good.

Met with 2 different deputies - one is a retired annuitant. Total of 45 minutes in the building.

I did not take 2 utility bills - so now I have to email them one.

They say the committee meets in 2 weeks - so I hope to have a letter in 3 weeks or so.

I turned in my app on 5/23 and still haven't heard anything. I called on 6/25 and spoke with Amber and was told they had just recieved some paperwork for my background check, my application would be in front of the commitee in 2 weeks. My record consists of a couple of speeding tickets, the most recent is just under 5 years ago so I am not sure what they they are waiting for. I plan to call again on monday.

Do i just keep waiting to hear or is there a way to kickstart things?

Based on your timeline, the committee probably met in the last few days. It then takes a few days for the letters to be printed and mailed. I'd recommend waiting a bit longer rather than interrupt her processing for more calls.

Talked to Amber and she said my app would be reviewed when the commitee meets tonight and I should recieve a letter from them in a few days.

Quick CCW related question and I apologize if this has been beaten to death.

I live in Sacramento County and recently received my CCW permit after going through the long application and training process. When my permit came in the mail, I noticed wording on it:

"If contacted by law enforcement and carrying a concealed weapon, you must advise the officer of the presence of a firearm either on your person or otherwise present."

Yes, it says that on the permit, but does that wording really have force of law - or is it like a sign on a business that says "no weapons allowed?" (I was told in training class that such signage does NOT carry force of law, merely that the proprietor can ask me to leave if I'm found carrying and that I must comply.)

Can anyone point me to a state or local statute that actually requires this? If a local ordinance, does it still apply to me while I'm within California (but outside of Sacramento County), being that my CCW was issued by Sac County?

Moreover, my CCW instructor advised me to do the exact opposite during a routine traffic stop - not mention the permit or weapon as it might alarm the officer and cause him to pull me out of my car at gunpoint. He said that if the cop hits a certain button on his computer while running my license plates before he even gets to my car window.

This article recommends the exact opposite - and it's from usconcealedcarry.com, which the instructor said was a good resource for CCW holders!

I know this is a topic of controversy and even police officers themselves disagree about notification by drivers. My preference would be to keep quiet about it; I would prefer NOT to notify the cop unless there is actually a municipal code or state law requiring me to do so. Is there?

I couldn't find anything about this on the sac sheriff website or CA-DOJ site. Google searches revealed only opinions, when I need facts.
