Applied online for ccw modification to add a firearm. Only have one on permit, adding one for total of two. Submitted 9 March 2017, today is 3 May 2017. Sac Sheriff online system says still pending. Sent an email requesting info.

All available sources of info indicate that SSD will NOT modify for gun changes now, only for change of address.

My renewal took 10 days from submission to pickup.

It's a gamble. I "lost" a month of my last permit, so in a sense I'm paying more. But wait too long, and you could end up without a permit for a few weeks.

It's people submitting all the darn modification requests clogging up the system!!!

Several people recently reported timelines in the 9-14 day range. Mine was 10; applied 4/10, notified 4/20. There is a certain amount of uncertainty in all of this in terms of the political pressure being brought to bear by Steinberg/Serna/McCarty/SacBee, et al. Only you can decide whether it's worth your while to apply early, thus shaving a couple months off until the date you have to renew again. Barring any other developments, you can probably safely wait until 30 days before expiration to apply.

#5: Is there a grace period after my permit expires that allows me to still carry my CCW permit after it expires?

There has NEVER been a grace period that allowed permit holders to continue to carry their CCW after their permit expired. We recommend you submit your online Renewal Application 30-45 days prior to your permit’s expiration date and scan/upload your training and qualification documents simultaneously or soon thereafter.

                        FAQ #12:
How many guns can I list on my CCW permit?

At the present time only three handguns can be listed. Governor Brown signed a bill that became law January 1, 2017 that authorizes the creation of a CCW ID card. DOJ must first convene a committee to study this issue and recommend a standardized CCW ID card. It is not known what mandated information must be on the new CCW ID card or whether permit holders will be able to list more than three handguns.
In reality, the new statute does not require development of a "CCW ID card", nor does it require the Sheriff to wait for a special study.

                        Penal Code 26175 (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...ctionNum=26175)

The statute continues the requirement for the AG to develop a uniform CCW license.
                        (3) (A) The Attorney General shall develop a uniform license that may be used as indicia of proof of licensure throughout the state.
If IAs have developed their own hard-copy license, then, the statute also requires:
                        (B) The Attorney General shall approve the use of licenses issued by local agencies
Orange, Ventura, and other counties have already been issuing indicia which can meet these criteria. So, the Sac Sheriff, using the guidelines in subparagraph (B) and other elements of the section, can establish a Sacramento form which "shall be approved".

It's also interesting to note that the statute makes no constraint on the number of guns which can be carried, stating only that the license must, "contain a description of the weapon or weapons authorized to be carried, giving the name of the manufacturer, the serial number, and the caliber."

                        Best.

                          New data point for renewals.

Decided to do my renewal way ahead since a few pages back someone had mentioned that one of the Sheriffs told him to start the renewal process earlier than the 45 days they quote on the website. I am about 60 days from expiration.

Did my renewal training on Sunday 5/7.
Submitted renewal app and uploaded documentation Monday 5/8 11:45am.
Received an email stating documentation hadn't be received Tuesday 5/9 11:10am.
Submitted docs again Tuesday 5/9 11:15am.
Received an email that my permit was approved and ready for pickup Tuesday 5/9 2:09pm.

So basically a one day turn around for me, I was surprised to say the least. Hopefully its not a mistake and when I go to pick it up on Thursday everything is good to go.

I submitted my renewal docs last night and also got that email stating they did not get them, so uploaded them again. Did not get the approval yet though.

It appears the renewal process is working better using the new system. Is there any movement on new CCW's using the new system?

No new Sac County CCW permits issued yet in 2017, best I can tell.
