Well, add me to the list!!

The wait will begin next Monday. I was out of town when the email came with the approval from the Sherriff, and today they were closed for the Holiday so I should be able to get my Live Scan on Monday.

    The wait begins!!

Just in case it hasn't been highlighted recently, there are some minor differences in the paperwork process between new permits and renewals. The department has a request in to IT to update the web site to make it clearer, but they don't know when it might be done.

BOTH types - do not sign the paperwork until you're asked to do so. You can save the PDF file as it is enabled for you to save what you've typed - you might rename the one you fill in to make it distinct. In two years, you can check the site to see if the form has changed, then manage the information.

New Permit - Leave the sections noted on the website for pages 8-10 blank. Go ahead and make a quick letter that states your reason for getting the permit (personal and family protection IS OK).

Renewal - Fill in the complete paperwork including the areas noted above that were to be blank. If you don't do it beforehand, they will probably have you complete it while you're waiting to be called back for your appointment. You do not need a separate letter stating your need - there is a section in the PDF for that portion.

Both types (as well as address changes) - take COPIES (you can carry the originals if you really want to, but they want copies) of your qualifications and certificates as well as the TWO utility statements (gas, electric, garbage, phone, cell phone, etc.). You only need the first page of the statements where it shows your name and address.

Both types, as well as address changes - MAKE sure your Driver's license address is up to date. I'm not sure they require a new DL, but you should at least have proof that you've filed the change of address. If you haven't received your first billing, ask the utility company for some type of proof that you've got an account at the current address. Since you only have 10 days after moving to report the change in address, it is highly unlikely you'll have any kind of permanent replacement in hand.

As has been discussed, the appointments go well if you have everything ready. They are friendly and professional. If everything is ready, you'll be in and out in about 20 minutes.

MOST IMPORTANT! - do not take any of your guns into the building. The last time I was in the building, I even left my pocket knife outside.

            Any idea on delay?

I checked my live scan and found the FBI and DOJ scans were done and submitted back to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office over a month ago. I'm not worried, just curious as to the delay.

THose come back within a few days... two things delay the CA DOJ. One is there is only one woman who does all the forms for all of the California and two is they also wait for the actual "paperwork" to be mailed to them before they proceed.

Hence why the data points in here currently show the results for Livescan at about 60 days right now.

Thanks Dvrjon. Looks like this is not unusual and I have a bit to wait.

Yeah, pretty decent time. I have to say that the whole experience was seamless and the SSD staff were a pleasure to deal with. Hang in there, the hardest part really is the wait!
