    the last bit

In the end, was it worth it? To me it was, for a few reasons. Being more self reliant for personal and family safety. To help the numbers of permits in the state grow and show there is not blood in the streets because of it. To be more familiar with the process and in turn, how we might go about fixing it. To be able to relate the experience to others and encourage them to do the same if they are interested. Do I still want to change the process? I certainly do, and will continue to work on ways to improve things for the future. Right now, I think the biggest issue is the time frame. Without more personnel dedicated to CCWs, the time frame is just going to get worse. At some point something will have to change. A tightened, more restrictive process to cut down on the number of applicants, an easier process to not require as much resources, or more manpower dedicated to moving things along. With luck, it will be an easier process, along with more people to speed it up.

Got my permit Friday. Just a few days shy of 6 months.

The guys there are awesome but swamped! I hope they get them someone to help out soon!

Also, If you have a SSE get the caliber conversion done (search this forum) prior to applying!

You can either Op-law it to a spouse, parent or child and then op-law if back. Or you can pawn it to yourself and wait the 10 days.

The op-law process is slower but you have the pistol the whole time. The pawn method is faster but you have to do another 10 days.

Congrats to the few of you who got it!

I am done with all but the range qualifying. I didn't even check, is it at all difficult? Novice/Intermediate handgunner.

If you are confident enough in your shooting to carry CCW. Then you won't have a problem passing the quals. Basically the hardest part is hitting a man size target at 15 yards. Without a time limit.

yo shanman. the range at ben Clarke is pretty nice. holes in the top covering. Maybe rookie deputies. they make you wear body armor on the firing line. if you have your own you can bring it. I seen other folks bring their own. Three mags per firearm. 6 rounds in each mag. Have a holster for mags and pistols. If you don't have 3 mags don't trip they will let you load 6 more rounds at each firing location. Pretty laid back atmosphere. If you have any trigger work it must pass their "finger test".

Just qualified at Ben Clark today. Just as described above. Slow fire - no time limit. Really relaxed. Stopped by to say hi to deputy Aguirre and let him know about a speeding ticket I got on Monday. Poor guy looked beyond exhausted.

                      Interviewed 4/23/15
                      Livescan 4/27/15
                      Qualified 6/24/15

Aguirre said its taking about 2 months for livescan to come back. The poor guy looked so tired that I didn't bother to ask him if mine had come in yet. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Help I need some info. I have an appointment to turn in my application in August. When I go to turn in the application do they also do the interview at the same time or do they schedule another visit for the interview? When I go for the appointment ( first visit ) do I just take the money order for $20.00 or should I also take the one for $95.00. I should add I want to be pre-approved in case it makes a difference. In Sleighters post above it appears as interview/application submission giving the impression they are the same meeting, but on page 13 second paragraph it says " After your inital application is reviewed, if your justification and situation appear to meet the department's guidlines, you will be scheduled for a personal interview." I just don't want to have everything right and have a problem because I don't have the money order right. Thanks

Yes you turn in the application at the same time as your "interview". In reality the interview is just going over your packet and making sure it's complete and some small talk.

The fees required are the $95 livescan fee and the $20 admin fee. These should be 2 separate money orders.

If you are interested in applying for your CCW in Riverside County, then make the call and get your interview/app submission appointment first thing. It appears the current lead time is about 6 months out and growing. That is plenty of time to get your app, letters, and GC all sorted out. IMHO, if for whatever reason you cannot get that done in 6 months, then you likely never will. So just make the call and get the ball rolling. If you decide during that time that you do not want to go through with it, you can cancel. No harm done. In addition, there could be litigation developments, policy changes, etc. that change how things work. It will be better to already have started the process no matter what happens than to be sitting around with a half completed app and no appointment at all.
