Question for all who have been through the qualification...what holster do you all recommend? Is there a generic one I can use to qualify with all my pistols? So I don't have to bring one holster per gun.

I already had kydex paddle holsters for my pistols, so I used those; one for my J-frame, and another for two different 1911-family pistols. They don't seem to be picky about holsters, so I think that any old holster that securely and safely holds the pistols you'll qualify with should be good to go. There's no need to draw from concealment, and I don't recommend doing it even if they will allow it; just keep it simple. And remember: The test isn't timed. Take your time, aim your shots, and be visibly safe.Comment

That all depends on what you are carrying. If a full sized 1911 is what you are carrying as well as something as small as an LCP, then no. Not one holster for all.Proposition 65 WARNING

Question...For the DOJ application it requests the make, model, and caliber of the weapon. Can I fill this out later when I decide what I want to carry or is it necessary to be filled out for the interview?Comment

I used a cheap Walmart nylon holster that I originally purchased for my M&P9 full size. My Shield was small in there and my BG380 and Colt Pocketlite were swimming in it, but no one even looked twice.
It held them in there without them falling to the ground and that was all they seemed to care about.Originally posted by MunkThis is akin to saying that the silver lining of being raped is, "hey, at least you're getting laid."Comment

You can finalize them when you go to qualification. After that is when they run them through DOJ before issuing the permit. I only had one listed at the time of my interview, and added two more during qualification."Fight like you're the third monkey trying to get on Noah's Ark...".

camvoncrosshair two questions
1) was the expert at calccw CCWINSTRUCTOR by any chance?
2) does you hobby that uses pricey gear that makes you a little money have to be documented any how?
the reason I asked is I had the expert at calccw look over my good cause and he told me that I should not use the fact that I do side work in various locations with pricey equipment, because I am not licensed and it can not be verified or documented.Comment

Don't worry about what that guy says. You've got the right guy, but his advice doesn't apply to Riverside. Your good cause is more than adequate. If you haven't already call and get your appt. last I heard they were looking at February. If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

1) yes, that is the guy. Sleighter is right, that guy does not seem to know what is viable and is not viable for Riverside. he is not an approved instructor, and has told many that their good cause was insufficient only to have them approved with no issue.camvoncrosshair two questions

2) I was asked if I had any sort of documentation about my hobby, or maybe some business cards. when I said no, it did not seem to be an issue. if needed, I could have provided some documentation.
not sure about licensing needed for your type of side work, but some simple invoices might suffice. the guys in the office are not code enforcement or anything like that. they dont seem like they would be too deeply concerned with that sort of thing (its not like you are pretending to be a doctor or anything, right?). business cards are fairly cheap to get. in hindsight, I would spend a few bucks for some, both to help out with good cause and they would be good to have in general."Fight like you're the third monkey trying to get on Noah's Ark...".

I reached out to that guy awhile ago and was told almost the same thing. That guy is not approving our ccw. Like Sleighter says your GC is adequate. Just make sure you have all your docs ready for your appointment.
I hear they are booked until Feb 2016!
Good luck to you! Keep us posted on your status.

no I not pretending to be a doctor. I am an air conditioning technician by trade just haven't been in the field for a couple of years. Now I'm a/c parts store manager but don't want to use my current position because my company doesn't allow carrying. I still do an occasional side job for friends and friends of friends, like I said no licensed and 90% of the time in not the best location with all my tools and equipment.Comment

Wow, just wow, I'm certified to handle iridium 192 and my DHS background check, process and certification was less time consuming and a lot fewer hoops than getting a ccw here, my ccw I got from my previous home I had a 5 minute interview, a picture and $20 dollars later I had my CCW.
Looks like I have a lot of reading to do before I start my process here.Comment
