I had my renewal appointment April 29th, class and qualifications mid May and still haven't heard back. My expiration was June 18th so I'm not sure what's going on.

I called in probably December because I wanted to add a gun and I decided to wait for my renewal and the April date is what he picked so I "would have enough time"

          9th Circuit ?

OK, I watched that video of June 16 of the En Banc hearing on the Peruta case. I haven't heard anything new since that. Anybody know what's going on with it?

Have they just been sitting around for the last three days trying to come up with a decision? Seems strange that no one on the news or anyplace else is saying anything about it?

As I understand it, it usually takes a long time to produce a decision after hearings. Usually months. Three days would be unheard of. We must be much more patient. Judicial time flows much more slowly than the "internet time" that we have become accustomed to.

It's highly unlikely that anything will happen until the fall. These things are measured in months not days. I imagine it's 50/50 if they decide this by the end of the year. The truth though is that there is no time limit. They can be as fast or slow as they want.

I imagine that how long this particular case takes will be based on how original this circuit wants to be. If they simply want to reiterate the 2-4th circuits it could be quick. If they are going to demand back to the district level for a re-trial it could be quick (but that would add years to the process). If they want to issue their own particular reasoning for either denial or approval then it could take a long time.

Even "quick" is likely to be measured in months. That is the nature of federal civil rights cases tried at this level.

Thanks for the info guys. I just didn't know how it worked. I can wait, after all I've waited all these years.

So, if they take months to make a decision, do they just keep hearing other cases along the way? So do they have a lot of decisions of other cases piling up?

I wonder what gives certain cases precedent? I mean what will make them finally sit around one day and say "You know that case we heard back on June 16? Maybe we need to come to a decision on it?

I guess there doesn't seem to be any set way things happen with them.

Not sure if it good or bad news but I got a call today from the riverside CCW unit. They requested I come in and bring some old court docs about and old arrest...

I'm cross posting this exchange from the FixRiverside thread. I believe that thread has served it's usefulness, and ongoing Riverside questions, etc. should be in this thread to consolidate information. A lot of people have asked about good causes recently. I didn't want to have to re-type this for everyone's unique circumstance, but it's a good template:

Does your classroom have electronics in it that might make it desirable for someone to force you to let them in to steal?

What activities are you Involved with at your church? Same type of questions: are you often there alone or with few other people? Are you there late in the evening and thus have to walk to your car alone in the dark? Does your church do outreach ministries that bring unsavory people in contact with you or your church? Is your church well-known such that it might be targeted? Do you deal with money at your church or have access to where the money is stored? Are there things at your church such as musical equipment, etc that might make it a target for theft?

Are you a member or participate in volunteer organizations that might place you at risk?

I do sometimes do outreach ministry to the poor and there are questionable people there.

My wife was attacked in our home in the mid 90's and left for dead. She lived (by the grace of God I found her and the doctors were able to save her before she died). The attacker was the maintenance guy for the apartment complex and was here from Mexico on a green card and did about a decade in jail and was supposed to be deported. I wondered if this would help we get a CCW. She was attacked and not me. He was deported and they might say he's no longer a threat. Also, the attack was at home and no CCW is needed for that.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Give the CCW unit something to hang their hat on and they'll give you your permit.

For example, don't leave out the teacher specific risks, just because you can't carry on school grounds. It doesn't mean you can't get attacked elsewhere for those reasons, i.e. at the grocery store, a school function off-campus, etc. You need to be saying: "I need a permit, this is why..." and be confident in that. Don't doubt yourself, you need to be your own advocate here.

Sleighter, it's probably in this or another thread somewhere, but that's a lot to read through, so I'll ask here. What was your good cause statement and when did you apply? Not asking for personal details, just the basics.

                          Thanks

                              Finally, I got my permit.
                              My timeline:

1st week of September 2014: Call for interview appt
                              Dec. 4, 2014 11:30AM: Interview/application submission
                              Dec. 31, 2014 2:00PM: Livescan
(X-mas season is really busy for me. With the limited window they have for Livescan appointments, along with my schedule, it took quite a while until I was able to make it.)
Jan. 1, 2015: Livescan results sent
(Not confirmed until Feb. 1, 2015. When calling the number for status, I would get the ATI number and DOB were confirmed, but kept getting “No information in the system at this time”. Another poster said they had issues with an incorrect ATI number on their form. I looked at my number, and some of the digits could have been “D”, “O” [the letter], or “0” [the numeral]. I tried a couple of variations, and got the ATI and DOB confirmed, but no information at this time message. Finally, one variation worked, and said both portions were completed and sent to requesting agency on Jan. 1, 2015)
approx. Feb. 2, 2015: Employer notification sent
                              (employer delayed in submitting)
Feb. 4, 2015: Notified Aguirre (via email) that employer notification and Livescan duplicate copy have been sent
Feb. 4, 2015: Response via email saying they will notify if anything else is needed
Mar. 9, 2015: Email Aguirre asking about status
Mar. 19, 2015: Response from Aguirre
I am still working on numerous files and your file is in this mix. If I need anything from you I will call you. Thank you for your understanding .
Apr. 3, 2015: Email Aguirre to schedule training dates
Apr. 3, 2015: Response to schedule training dates.
There was an opening for classroom training on Apr. 4 and range qualification on Apr. 15. Aguirre scheduled me for classroom right away.
Apr. 4, 2015: Classroom training at Ben Clark
Apr. 6, 2015: Scheduled for range qualification/confirm approval of Livescan results
Over the weekend I made sure the Apr. 15 date was good for range qualification. I emailed Aguirre and he put me on the schedule. I also confirmed that they had received my Livescan results and there was nothing to worry about in my background check.
                              Apr. 15, 2015: Range Qualification
May 21, 2015: Email asking about status
May 21, 2015: Response from Aguirre
Files are up at Sheriff’s Admin being reviewed. I will call you when it comes in.
                              June 4, 2015: 6 months since interview
June 15, 2015: 2 months since qualification and begin final wait for pick up or denial
June 19, 2015: Another email asking about status
June 22, 2015 (morning): Email response from Aguirre again saying he would call when ready
June 22, 2015 (afternoon): Email from Aguirre that permit is ready
June 23, 2015: Permit picked up

                              Costs:
                              Birth certificate: $28
