You can get your CCW sooner depending on your good cause. People who apply for "recreational" purposes you're looking at standard wait times 4-5 months or longer. They will prioritize based on "want vs need", you apply and submit 4 or 5 DR#s and or incident #s and follow up with a call you should be looking at 4-6 weeks max. Your wait time will come down to training and live scan.

Coming up on 2 months for an OC CCW amendment for adding a gun. It sure would be nice to carry my new gun... I called them a few weeks ago and was told to be patient for up to 4 months from sending the info in.

Thought I would post as a data point.

Submitted a new gun amendment March 20ish Approved mid April. But all goes back to my previous post above. If you have a few DR#s things are going to move faster than a CCW issued if you don't. But it's a good problem to have overall as a county vs somewhere like Santa Barbara County. Please anyone send me a message if you have specific questions.

It makes sense to me that with the finite amount of available hours they have in the CCW unit and the high volume of applications, that new permits and renewals might be prioritized above modifications to existing permits . . . no consolation for those waiting for modifications, but it seems like a reasonable way to approach the workload.

Here's my timeline. Set an interview date and made no attempt to get a closer date. Recently submitted an add a gun and called last week to see how long it would take. Was told they are processing add a gun amendments in 90 to 120 days.

            Initial application submitted 9/1/20
            LIvescan submitted 3/1/21
            Interview 3/2/21
            Training completed 3/13/21
            Training cert submitted 3/15/21
            CCW approval email received 3/16/21
Phone call for payment received 3/17/21
            CCW card received 3/20/21
Add a gun amendment submitted 4/27/21
            Amended CCW recieved: pending

              Hey guys,

My interview date is 06/10/2021. My application online still says the same thing as 12/2020, "assigning to processor shortly..". Is this supposed to update before my interview date or should I anticipate a call? I want to make sure I have everything prepared.

              Thank you in advance.

I see some have gotten sooner dates for the interview. Mine is currently Oct 5th. On the website I hit reschedule (for 3 days now) and nothing changes. Is this how you get a sooner date? just keep trying?
              Thanks

I checked every day, multiple times, for 4 months and never saw an earlier date.

Just show up to your interview with the proof of docs and livescan forms (if completed). Other than that, no call or anything of that sort. They may reach out to you before in case they’re still doing Microsoft Teams interviews.

                    CCW Good Cause Proof

                    Hello,

I just moved to OC and I definitely want to get a CCW. Here's my situation... I currently work in executive protection and my client is a well known supporter and activist regarding the Israel/Palestine conflict. Due to recent events, my client has received numerous threats, and when the principal goes out in public, I often join the said person.

My issue is that even if I have good cause, my company takes client confidentiality very serious and I know that you are require to provide proof of some sort to support your good cause.

How could I provide proof that I am around vulnerable people in public without breaking confidentiality? or should I scratch that and find a better use of good cause, since I will not be able to say who I am assigned to?

                    Thank you.

Maybe your company can write you a letter stating what you said without disclosing the client’s name. I don’t believe disclosing the person is necessary as long as your company is a legit executive protection business.

If in doubt, you can send them an email about it before applying.

I would advise being careful in how you phrase things. You need to be very clear that the CCW is to protect you not the client, but that your risk is a result of your required proximity to the client. I don't think many agencies will issue a CCW for the protection of another person. I know San Diego makes a big point of this.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

The more time I spend on this forum, the more sense kcbrown makes.

If you work Executive Protection you must work for a third party company when it come to firearms and liability. A CCW is issued based on your personal protection. Not for the paid protection of someone else. There is a reason companies hire professional security companies... It is a huge liability.

Renewal coming up in October, would it be too early to start the process or wait till next month?
