There is a number of GC threads here on CG. I would not post a GC statement openly, but there always seems to be folks who will review them via PM and offer their $0.02.

You have a good amount of time to do some due diligence.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have spent more time carrying legally in the home before taking the training. Initially I was thinking pocket carry, which I found for certain guns and my wardrobe was not really feasible. Hindsight, usually 20/20. I also found that I was a little uncomfortable with my striker-fired pistol, and ended up amending my permit to include a hammer-fired subcompact. Everyone needs to work out what is best for their situation.

Update..

I have been doing a LOT of reading. Seems like the biggest things I need to determine at this point is:
1. Do I need to have the Livescan stuff done prior to submitting the application? Does it need to be done prior to the interview? If I did it now, how long is it good for if the interview doesn't happen for say 6 months or longer?
2. If I take the class before the interview, and after the application is in, how long is the cert from the class once I qualify good for? I have read varying lengths of time.

I have been working with a friend on a GC statement and think I have that a good handle on that aspect, I just am trying to determine the timing of things and in what order it is best to do them.

Training cert good for 6 months. Unless money is no object, I'd suggest waiting until getting the informal thumbs up at your interview to do livescan and training.

I'm about 40 days+ from my interview (first time application) and haven't heard anything yet. I got a generic email response saying it can take 90 days from point of interview.

Has anyone else heard back?
