    Journey complete

Finally picked up the CCW today. It is a very quick process. You hand them the money order or cashier's check and your driver's license, confirm a few basic details like name and address are still current and then sign and initial a form that spells out the CCW legal policy rules (you can take a copy of this with your phone as you don't get a duplicate to keep). The deputy then takes your thumbprint and a photo, prints out the card and hands it to you along with a letter from the Undersheriff asking you to use your 'utmost common sense, caution and restraint when carrying a firearm and to fully comply with the legal policies provided'.

The deputy said that there are currently two deputies assigned to issuing permits and they are doing about 40/day between the two of them. They have seen a slowdown in applications post Bruen now that local PDs are accepting CCW applications however they still have a significant backlog of applications that they are working through.

My call was from a 213 area code, not private. YMMV.

Show up early. Contrary to the info sheet they emailed you you’re gonna be instructed to park way at the top of the property and will need a couple minutes to walk down to the building. I was 10-15min early for my interview. I waited, went to the bathroom, waited some more and my interview time came and went. About 10min after my scheduled time the interviewer came out to get me and said I wasn’t there when he called for me originally. All I can think is that he was running early and came out while I was in the bathroom. I expected them to be on schedule, I did not expect them to be ahead of schedule.

Everyone else in the waiting area will likely be there for something CCW related.

They’ll make copies of your documents then get to some questions. They go over the application you submit and mainly seem to just be confirming your answers and making 1000% sure you?re not omitting anything. Many of the questions will feel redundant. Just be honest and you should be fine. I get the impression that if you’re hiding something they WILL find out. I think this is your last chance to be fully transparent and/or change your answers in case you didn’t understand one of the questions on your application.

He didn’t exactly ask for Good Cause but he did ask why I was looking to get a CCW. I wasn’t expecting that although when I originally applied I assumed it was needed (this was over a year ago prior to new guidelines).

Other than that, just be respectful of the interviewer and of their time.

I’m sure there are people that get cut at this stage but probably not many. The interview felt less like a gate to get thru and more like just a double check and to confirm your app came from a real person. From here they hand it over to another person for full, in depth review, background checks…etc

He said I’d have AT LEAST a 3mon wait now until I hear back regarding whether I’ll be proceeding to training or not.

I 100% agree with you. Back in the rampart corruption days I was no where near that area I was falsely arrested processed then obviously the case was tossed out without even seeing a judge for possession of narcotics. I have never done drugs in my life. Heck never even smoked a cigarette. Just occasional cigars. Never the less I did not have that on my application and was told many years ago that it would never come up again... Now that was a lie because it's still on my record as an arrest then dismissed and everytime I put my head down in shame when explaining the story as if I did something wrong while the 3 arresting officer 20+ years later probably don't even remember me but for me its like it happened yesterday and I still have na occasional nightmare of handcuffs, strip search, calling my parents tell them what happened etc etc. It's an embarrassing thing for me personally that happened but I explained it all to the interviewing deputy. I even ended up suing LAPD for it... I have over 20 firearms, FFL, with no issues and I did have my FFL license copy for the deputy. And as long as you are truthful they realize you are not hiding anything

If I remember correctly, there were a few of us with very close timelines. The thing that killed me was the PTT email. It took CCW 122 days to send me the email, while others received their emails in 50-80 days. That pushed me back months. Otherwise you and me both submitted our training docs on the same day (2/10). 7 Weeks today, I am thinking another week or so for the pick-up call. Hang in there.

Tomorrow will be my 122 days since my interview. Still waiting on my PTT email. Keeping my fingers crossed . Congratulations to all who have endured the process.
Btw, MAX did you at least get a quick call to pick up, after being delayed in the PTT phase?

I have not received a phone call from the CCW Unit for a pick-up date. Still waiting, like Mike for the call. It has been 7 weeks today, since we both submitted our training records. The wait ranges from 6-9 weeks, after CCW receives your training records, so we are in the middle right now, so maybe next week, or the week after. I hope. Best to everyone.

I bet today's closure of the 10 at Eastern Avenue messed up some interview and pick up appointments since that is the exit to get to LASD's Monterey Park HQ. It looks like it is still closed for investigation nearly 7 hours later.
A shooting involving Monterey Park police led to closure of both sides of the 10 Freeway in City Terrace for more than nine hours.

Yeah man hopefully not much longer. My wife submitted her training docs exactly 2 weeks before me they called her March 5th for pickup April 7th. Still haven't heard a peep from ccw unit. Looks like I'm gonna go the full 8-10 weeks till I get the call lol.
