If this is true, LAPD is making LASD look like complete amateurs. What an unexpected breath of fresh air.
LAPD didn't have the huge influx that LASD did in the beginning is my guess as to why they seem "on top of it"

            "EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2022
The LASD will only accept first-time CCW applications from those who reside within our contract cities or unincorporated communities and encourage applicants residing in a municipality other than those served by the LASD to contact their local police chief and apply for a CCW license.

All first-time CCW applications submitted, received, or postmarked before the indicated date; the LASD will accept and continue to process."

What does this mean for residents of cities like Torrance, Manhattan Beach, and Hermosa Beach? Technically all those cities are part of LA county, but are not contract cities per the list here: http://shq.lasdnews.net/content/uoa/...cipalities.pdf

Can residents in Torrance, Manhattan and Hermosa no longer apply through LASD?

For the cashiers checks when we go to pickup, do we make them out to “LASD” or “Los Angeles Sheriffs Department”? Does it matter?

You need to apply to the City PD where you live.

When you sent in your renewal application, did you write "RENEWAL" on the front of the envelope? If not, that could be the reason you have not heard anything from them.

If the city PD does not issue, can residents then apply to LASD once they have a denial from the local city?

You must apply to your local PD if not a contract city now

If they do not issue, then you have to either A) wait for them to start issuing like LAPD did, or like you said, be denied then apply to LASD I believe. But don't think they'd deny you when they most likely don't have a unit set up for it

Yes I did. The issue was they could not accept just a signed lease (I had my interview 2 weeks after I moved, so no utility bills yet). Interviewing deputy also didn't have me sign something. The deputy who called said it was now under final review. I sent everything she needed within 20 minutes, so hoping for a pick up call soon!

I emailed LAPD yesterday asking for an appointment. I just gave my name, phone number and email. I got a call this morning and have my interview scheduled for December 5th at the police academy near dodger stadium. He said they're only doing interviews on Mondays right now. They told me to bring my application, do the live scan, and bring all of my paperwork. He suggested I not do the training now. He also told me to bring a cashiers check for $53 made payable to City of LA.
