Interesting. Curious if they asked if his wife or friends wanted to apply because they may have similar GC or if they are insisting that it is fairly much easier to obtain one, hence they are trying to encourage more to apply?Friend was interviewed last week and was asked by deputy if there is any more guns he wanted to add besides the three on his application. He was also asked if his wife wanted to apply or friends. Right after the interview he was given a list of livescan providers. Deputy also said he needs to train with LASD approved trainers. He has yellow GC(work related)
When I had training, i had two modified slides with RDS and it was approved. I have been a competitive shooter for 20 years and due to aging eyes had to transition to RDS. BTW Atty Branca a well known defense Atty. carries a pistol with RDS. I train, dry fire regularly and ease of acquisition of sights and RDS are almost no different but RDS are faster and more accurate from about 15 yards and beyond. Sorry just had to say this. I am waiting for a call to pick up permit. Its been two weeks since I submitted training paperwork.
May I ask what color your GC is? Hoping to hear from light green GC applicants soon.
Thanks to all who have contributed to this process and thank you Paladin & CCWFacts for assisting us LA Co residents. Exciting times.Comment

If Villanueva is sincere in his decision to expand CCW then he should be rewarded with support from the community. Even better, if he expands CCW to be much more widespread like in SB and OC counties, then that would demonstrate that he deserves support from the pro-2A community.Comment

Anyways, as someone who is in LA Co and going to begin this journey I'm trying to get a couple things straight. So depending on if my city resides in LAPD jurisdiction or not I could potentially bypass that and go straight to LASD? If not I'd have to go through LAPD process with great chance of denial, then proceed with LASD?
In trying to figure out my GC statement I've narrowed down to acouplequite a few options.
- I rent out rooms to 2 tenants of my house both of which I found through Craigslist. I handle lump sums of cash to multiple banks anywhere between $1k-$2k at a time.
- I'm an avid runner, hiker, and backpacker. Many times of which I do at night. While I haven't documented this, I have found 9 and .45 casings on the bike path that I frequently run. Just to give a little location I frequent a park and there is a huge homeless community that surrounds the park that always seems suspect. I'm often times backpacking in remote areas in Angeles National Forest or Joshua Tree where there is no cell reception until you get into a town.
- I'm an amateur photographer who carries $2k-$3k worth of photo equipment and about $1k of backpacking gear while doing said activity
- I'm also a fairly good golfer who carries $1k-$2k worth of gear for hours at the same park mentioned above
- I suppose the obvious of transporting firearms to the shooting range

Actually I spend way TOO much time reading here and the search functions leave a lot to be desired. I had already investigated this on the LASD side:
If the applicant is active military, duty station orders indicating assignment within California (LA County) should be provided.
Maybe we can get LAPD to sign a MOU with LASD!Comment

I went back to the webpage, followed the instruction links and found this:
So it appears that LAPD remains the first step for those who live in an incorporated city without an MOU or if you live in LAPD jurisdiction.Last edited by recoil; 04-11-2021, 1:10 PM.Comment

Just tried calling the number listed on the page to inquire about this, but navigating to the CCW information over the phone only yielded a repeating message of the LASD policy being read aloud.02.28.22 - Application mailed
07.13.22 - Live Scan complete
11.03.22 - Interview
01.14.23 - Proceed to training authorization
01.21.23 - Cert submitted
01.23.23 - Acknowledged receipt
03.12.23 - Call to schedule pickup
04.07.23 - Permit issuedComment

If you read my post you quoted you will see I said the requirement is still in the .pdf of the policy. But if you go back to the quote I made of Baja Daze post, the main paragraph in the middle is a quote of the old LASD PD denial requirement. That is no longer to be found under the Qualifications section he linked or anywhere else.I went back to the webpage, followed the instruction links and found this:

People should contact LASD and/or their own PD to confirm a PD denial letter is still required. Trust me.

I finally got through to the desk sergeant at LAPD Central. He told me that as far as he knew, nothing has changed, but he wasn't absolutely certain. Only that no memo has circulated regarding a policy change. I don't think this information can be relied upon. Probably better to speak with the CCW unit at LASD.Comment

Getting a CCW from LAPD is impossible. In fact, I don't remember anyone getting a CCW from LAPD since I was a probationer @ LAPD back in the early '90s.Do you want professional firearms and tactics training?

Have any of you with questions regarding jurisdiction contacted LASD directly yet? Unless anyone answering here can speak officially for the CCW unit, it will be speculation. Contact them and get a definitive answer.NRA Benefactor Life Member
