FINALLY, after 8 months of waiting, I picked up my CCW today.
Thanks to this forum with all the information that guided from start to finish.

Just want to share my timeline here so people can know what to expect.

04/17/21 drop the application in the mail
05/05/21 check cashed
07/18/21 got a call to schedule interview
08/05/21 interview (@ Whittier)
08/10/21 got notified by email to do live scan and finished the same day
11/15/21 got an email to proceed with firearm training
11/18/21 finished firearm training and submitted the certificate
12/14/21 got a call to pick up the permit
12/15/21 pick up

my GC is: real estate agent traveling to different areas and usually by myself

Couple tips I have learned along the way:
1. make sure you have the firearm you wish to use ready. You can't change/ add until next renewal
2. the calls are coming as "unknown" on caller ID. Nowadays there are a lot of junk/ spam calls and I think I missed couple of the unknown calls
3. don't bother contacting LASD for update. There is no helpful answer except "we will contact you when it's ready". Just wait patiently

Congratulations! I submitted around the same time as you but I interviewed almost 2 months after. I'm in the same industry as you so I hope my training email comes soon. 🤞
I thought about sending a follow up email at the 60 day mark but at this point I'll just continue to sit tight and wait lol.

only difference is your training was completed?? were you instructed or did on your own?

i signed up for 1/8 training class just because it looked like classes were filling up, figured any training is good so hopefully get the proceed to training email and worst case ill have the training on hand to supply

I did my training pre-emptively. My Deputy told me to do Live Scan, and said I COULD do training, but he wasn't officially telling me that.. Just that he was RECOMMENDING my application for approval...

Hi guys, I get the best Christmas gift - a call from a private number.
A lady called me to schedule my interview on Jan 6th at 9 AM at Whittier station. I was told to bring all the documents related to my GC. I'm also told to bring a letter to describe my job from my employee. June applicants, hope is coming to us.

Are personal checks still possible to submit with new applications? On the LASD's CCW website (https://lasd.org/ccw/#ccw_app) the instructions mention cashier's check or money order, not personal checks. But many above posts mention the fact that they knew when their checks were cashed, so I wonder if LASD instructions have changed. Thanks.

Several of us heard directly from Deputies or the Lieutenant that they are not currently issuing for recreational GC. So plan to emphasize your Yellow GC at the interview. Think it through carefully, develop it and document it up the wazoo. You can bring the light green support, too, just in case, but most have reported the Deputies ignored it and focused on employment or business owner categories.

Money or Cashier's check were asked by the deputy at time of pick up.

Thank you for your advice. The officer also asked me for all the documents or support evidence work related. I will prepare as more as I can.

With the increased timeframe from application to pickup, I wonder how the renewal timeframes will be. On their website, it says to submit an application 60 days prior to expiration date. They did say that it's a faster process for renewal applicants but this was back in May when the overall CCW process took a few months.

Pretty sure driving for Uber/Lyft is not enough for good cause. And I'm sure the LT in charge knows the current policy for Uber/Lyft.

Hi all,

This forum has helped me a lot before I even applied. This is my first time posting. I want to reciprocate what I have benefited from every one.

I did my interview today. (I didn't get the call from an "Unknown Caller" or "No Caller ID". I got the call from an actual listed number.) The deputy was very pleasant, punctual, thorough but efficient, and professional. Deputy was completely okay with me completing the firearm training prior to the interview. I simply explained that I made a mistake and thought that I had to complete the training prior to the interview, which was true.

Be prepared to provide supporting documents for EVERYTHING you put on your application. I tried to provide every shred of documents I can come up with. If you think you should provide proof, have the proof ready. If you think you might need to provide the proof but not sure, have it ready anyway. That's what happened to me. The deputy said since I had already completed my firearm training, there isn't anything else I need to do besides waiting after I completed my LiveScan. The deputy finally said if I don't hear back from them in 6-8 weeks after my LiveScan had completed, email the CCW unit. My file will be sent to someone else for a final review and approval. Then, upon my approval, I should expect a phone call to schedule for a pick up. (Pretty much like what everyone else said here.)

Am I just waiting to hear from LASD for the next step? Any guidance is great, thank you!
