Looks like LASD removed the "Firearm Modification" requirement on their website.

During my interview, the deputy said" modifications are fine as long as it's California legal."

For a second I was hopeful and I thought you were talking about modifying the list of guns you're allowed to carry

You might want to check on your status. I mailed mine to them on 3/18 and had my interview a couple weeks ago. Just waiting on live scan now. Good luck

With portions of the livescan apparently taking much much longer to return now, is it possible to get it done prior to being contacted for the interview? Or is there a specific reference you’re given post-interview that is necessary to complete the livescan? Just trying to get ahead of things

Damn so they're a month + on interviews

Wife just mailed hers last week.

Back in Feb. it was a one week lead time for interviews.

I know everyone is anxious to get their permit applications processed and expedited so I'll share some of my experience in the process and hope that this will help all of you get your application processed with more expedience.

                      1. Turning in your application. I know that LASD says you can mail in your app or submit it at a local station. They have a mailing address for the CCW Unit specifically, in downtown L.A. I suggest mailing it to that address over taking your application physically to a local station. Knowing bureaucracies (and police dept. are bureaucracies), everything is done by specific procedures and that means your application will be reviewed by the CCW Unit. If you turn it in at a local station, they're just going to send it to the downtown location to the CCW Unit (additional delay).

                      2. Check all your data and make sure it's accurate. On my application where you list the guns you intend to carry, I typed an incorrect digit on one of my serial numbers. At the interview, they told me they couldn't find that gun when they checked the records. I had to go home and verify the number after the interview. After texting a picture of the correct serial number to the interviewer, they had to forward the info to the CCW Unit. I got my clearance to get my Livescan, a couple days later. This is probably why I was not given the Livescan go ahead right after the interview like others have.

                      3. Training. If they told you that you'll most likely be approved or they tell you right after the interview to do the Livescan, get your training done as well. My firearms portion of my Livescan took more than 3 weeks. I'm sure it's even longer now. You'll probably finish your training before your Livescan clears. When they contact you after clearance, you'll be able to submit your training certifications immediately and further streamline the process. If I had done so, I probably would have saved myself about 2 weeks in the whole process.

                      Good luck everyone!

How long LASD take to cash the check? My buddy's app was delivered on April 9th and has not received any calls and LASD hasn't deposit the check.

Should I not even bother applying if I had a DUI three years ago? Had a seatbelt citation 9 years ago as well. Other than that pretty clean, believe I have a decent GC as well. Usually carrying thousands in cash and music equipment to locations all over SoCal to buy/sell/trade as part of my business.

I talked to someone close to the CCW unit a few weeks back and DUI is a hard no but doesn't hurt to try if you are carrying lots of cash worse they can say is no. Worth the $30 IMO. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, figured as much. Wouldn't want to get denied and then have to check the box that says that I've been denied in future applications. Guess I'll just wait a few more years before trying.
