Got the call today, picking up Nov 8 at Sherman Block Center in MPK. Call came in as "Unknown", the deputy apologized for the delay, asked me to bring a money order made out to "LASD" and my drivers license, and not to bring any firearms.

    Sig and spreadsheet updated.

Tried emailing the CCW unit today to see if they can confirm receipt of training docs but was told they hadn't checked training docs for this week yet. I guess they check once a week. anyway going to have to put on my patience hat and buckle down.

If the firearm information is illegible, incorrect, or incomplete, the firearm will not be listed on your permit.

In addition, the caliber of the firearms must all match on all paperwork (AFS, DROS, Shooting Proficiency Standards form and Certificate of Completion and DOJ).

Failure to provide correct information will delay issuance of your CCW License.

You have 90 days from this email to complete your Firearms Training.

That's a big bummer, especially since I'm sure many of us anticipated the SOP was training certs were the final say in what's on the license.
Got this reply from the CCW unit today. Looks like nothing has changed, maybe just in the middle of a transitional period or something. YMMV

"The firearms listed on the training documents are what will be listed on the license (up to 3)."

            What's your budget?

If you can pull it off, Scott's class is worth every penny, I learned way more than I paid for, he's a wealth of information. I believe his class at Burbank firing line is $199 +$25 for each firearm which should be competitive within Los Angeles.

For those who have received their call for pickup, do they give any flexibility on pickup date & time?

                1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
                2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
                3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
                4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).

I got the call yesterday to schedule my pick-up. The Deputy said that they are scheduling 1 month out currently. I took the first date and time available. I'm guessing you could ask for whatever date you wanted.

Thanks! I assumed as much but never saw it mentioned. I travel a lot for work and was afraid I'd be given a date I can't make.

I also just took the first thing he offered and then re-arranged my work to accommodate. But it definitely seemed like there were other options if I wasn't available for the first slot he had. I think they're automatically gonna just offer you whatever slot they have open first, their goal is to fill ALL spots so they can move as fast as possible. But if you're not available I'm sure you can pick later dates. When I got my call there was only one slot open on the day he offered so if I'd said now I would have had a later date.

That make sense and is a bit of a relief, now hopefully they don't call me when I'm on a plane

I just got off the phone with the unit and they confirmed receipt of my training docs so I'll update the spreadsheet but he said expect 8 to 12 weeks until a call. Yikes! I suppose it's safe to say those of us on June apps won't be receiving our card until sometime in January.

I finally got my PTT today. I wanted to complete the training in Burbank, but they aren't on the authorized list of training providers. The list was updated 8/15/23 -- any ideas?

EDIT: I see Scott is listed under Apex Firearms Training and the range is listed in Sylmar. Looks like his website is not bookable, so I emailed Scott to double check I can book it through the Firing Line website and it'll be considered "authorized" since his company is providing the training.

Does anyone know if I need to remove the flashlight/laser from my M&P shield? I had bought it for home, but it's going to be my CCW firearm. Just wanted to know so I remove it prior to my training.

That's correct, Burbank Firing line itself was removed but Scott took over those classes and as long as he's authorized you're good to go. You're going to enjoy his class, 8 hours goes by very quick, just make sure you have questions ready for him although he'll mostly cover any scenario you can think of.

You don't need to remove the flashlight, only exception was for Glocks they need to be removed because SN needs to be verified from the metal plate underneath and not from the slide.

I think you can arrange something with Medic Up. Get in touch with Ron and he will let you know.
