After reading gemini1's post, I contacted the person who interviewed me in July to ask about this. The response was "the psychological written exam & evaluation was implemented July 1, 2023, and any applicant who continues in the CCW permit process, regardless of when they applied, are required to take & pass the psychological written exam & evaluation. The exception would be applicants who were already approved by the Sheriff for a CCW permit prior to that date."

It seems that there is some confusion.

You can call 650 599-1662. That's the number I called. Spoke with Gina Sheridan who confirmed what I read on their website, that only those who applied after July 1 needs to have a psych eval.

The email approval I got from Permitium was Oct 6 and after paying the final fee, the next email was to call SO for range qual appointment. My approval date contradicts what the person you spoke with said about exemptions.
Here's a copy/paste from the SMSO website about psych eval. Take note of the all caps NEW applicants.

"The Sheriff's Office will be requiring psychological testing for all NEW applicants effective July 1, 2023."

Is there any way I can modify my permit to add my newer guns? I'm looking to sell one of my guns on my permit, it sucks that it says that you can't anymore after your permit is issued.

Right now the only time you can modify the firearms on your permit is when you renew every 2 years.

Approval received today, so 10 day waiting period

Now I just need to find a vendor... The first two web sites I looked at (Bat and 2aFA) seems broken across all three browsers I tried, so the options seem somewhat limited

just confirmed this. there appears to be a willingness to at least hear you out if you have a gun with a reliability or safety problem.

i decided to drop it until i renew.

Anyone else stuck after the psych exam? Finished my psych exam back on 8/30 and been in limbo ever since.

Just completed my live fire qualification over the weekend. The whole process took 12 months from when I submitted my application to the Sheriff. The guys at Saber Tactics are great - highly recommend going with them for the classroom and qualification portion of the process.

Did the psychologist tell you that you passed?

                        Did you contact the sheriff?

Yup psychologist said he?d pass me into the sherif.

I contacted the person who was emailing me about the interview and got a generic response of ?your applications with the sheriff admin now and should hear back hopefully soon?

Was wondering if anyone?s heard anything different or if everyone?s just in the same boat.

Are you sure you passed the psychologist? For me, I passed the psychology test and in 1 week, I got a notice from SMSD to schedule a CCW course.

Two cousins took 12-months application to zoom interview. I guess psych is next?

                                Update on my application.
Done with the firearms qualification last Saturday 11/18.23, with Saber Tactics. These guys are something else! The weather was lousy, everyone was soaked from the on/off drizzle, but we went ahead and finished the course. I think there were 5 or 6 guys from Saber who were attentive to what everyone was doing, making sure all are safe. Highly recommended!
Got my certificate from Ephraim yesterday and I forwarded a copy to Jennifer Valdez that same night.
Got an email back from Jennifer this morning, and I can come next week to pick up my permit.
Applied Sept. 2022, so it's a little over a year. But no psych exam!
