I agree with all of the above. I join in your suspicion of anyone using the term "Common sense Gun safety measures". I HOPE, without any evidence so far, that in this case it's just a shibboleth designed to gain support from the left, sort of the left's equivalent of motherhood and apple pie.

SDCGO will be on this election like white on rice, and definitely any candidate should know this isn't 10 years ago anymore. Things have changed about CCW and getting an endorsement because of that is no trivial matter.

Hopefully, by election day, we will have a decision from SCOTUS making all good cause standards and good moral character requirements void. Even then, however, there will be a big difference between a Sheriff that wants to issue and one who wants to obstruct.I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Let's hope by then possibly 7000 or more CCW issued with zero negative events associated and a SCOTUS win will help make any potential will to obstruct weak. These are political animals running for office afterall, there may be little to no traction to be had being anti CCW when the hot issues are probably going to be other issues. Of course anyone can say one thing, and then do another later when nobody cares but us.

Some deputies I've spoken to do not like Myers. They said Gore was above and beyond what Myers is, and would ever be. They said Myers has a hard on for control.
Martinez to them, is a political rat. Switched parties to Democrat before running. This is gonna suck. Supported by Gore himself, Todd Gloria, and Nathsn Fletcher. Bleh.
We need a better 3rd candidate.Last edited by BucDan; 11-13-2021, 10:46 PM.Comment

Wow this is mind boggling and I sure hope we do NOT loose the privilege of concealed carry! Gore has been great with issuing and it’s hard to determine if this new sheriff, whoever it is going to be is going to continue issue moving forward.

I would say Gore has not been "great". Gore 2018-2021 has been better than Gore 2009-2018 and all the ones before him. "Great" would be accepting self defense as good cause, which is perfectly within his ability, as many CA Sheriffs do.I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Soldier on, we have been doing something right especially given the state we live in.

While it would be awesome to have a really solid candidate, I have zero expectation of that in this town. But as others have pointed out, the overall impact the sheriff has on our daily lives is pretty minimal. They have zero legislative power and there isn't a lot of actual impact they can have beyond their stance on issuing CCW permits.
Would I like to have a sheriff that isn't against ghost guns or assault weapons? Absolutely I would. But the sheriff doesn't write the laws that govern those things. And there is little to no impact on me if the sheriff happens to be a control freak...although I absolutely feel for the deputies that have to work under that and I hope for their sakes that the sheriff is a good dude...or dudette.
I very much want to hear who SDCGO is going to back...assuming they back anyone. But I'm pretty much going to be a single issue voter when it comes to the sheriff...Where do they stand on CCW permits?
Or if I'm overlooking some other important area that they can greatly impact, please let me know. But I'm pretty sure this election is going to come down to the lesser of the evils. Like it usually does."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."
