Yup it could all turn out fine...they won't get dinged until audit time..and if CA DOJ changes their opinion by their next audit then it'll be a non-issue.. all depends when that next audit comes though

Well, if the card reader works, then there is no requirement to have a copy of the ID and if they have no copy, it is harder to prove it was a federal limits apply type. I doubt that the CA DOJ would check with the DMV to see the type. Personally I would not chance it though.

Some months ago I was speaking to a DMV customer service person who happened to be a trainer. We got on the subject of Federal Global Entry, proof of residency, etc. She actually was trying to work the problem as it was very new to them. We had a long talk and she asked a lot of questions about how other agencies were handling documentation requirements. My sense is that thry really are trying to get the process right for people. I would encourage everyone to share challenges with the DMV. They don’t control the rules set by other agencies like the DOJ. But it seems like they are open to hearing about how the REAL ID issue is impacting people and their transactions.

But the REAL ID issue is a federal law, so the DMV cant change much about those requirements. It would be nice if they said "cant board a airplane or buy a gun" but they wont do that in Cali.

The DOJ however CAN change its "rule making"

You are missing a big point here. You don't legally have to SHOW proof of citizenship when you buy a gun. Just age and identity. The DOJ is making up their own laws that don't exist saying that your Fed limits applies ID isnt sufficient proof of identification.

This doesn't have anything to do with illegal immigrants, it is them using this as an excuse to not sell John Doe a gun without having a way of denying him.

The AB60 lisences shouldnt have been the same as the "non real" IDs, but even if they are the same, it isnt legal basis to deny a sale.

CA law limits what ID is acceptable for the DROS submission, which is required for the background check. The laws actually exist. The CA DOJ is saying that the AB60 type license is not acceptable for the DROS, just like a paper license is not acceptable even if you have a passport.

It has to do with illegal immigrants because the DMV is issuing the same exact license to US residents. There never should have been an AB60 license as they are not legally here. That would have solved the problem, then making the licenses different would have also worked.

Do you think that this is a mistake? I don't. They are making the illegal alien licenses and the licenses for legal residents the same unless the person gets a Real ID. That is what the liberals really wanted from the start.

DOJ rep told my local gun shop, “We advise not to accept Fed Limits Apply.” Keyword “ADVISE.” If a gun store has dealt with customers for years and they know the new license is BS, they should be able to accept it. My local Turners is saying they’ll accept non-Real ID if issued after 1-22-2018.

what is stupid is that the law specified a state issued drivers license or ID card. It mentions nothing about AB60 or RealID versions. More CADOJ legislating through regulation
