    "Real ID" Update

American soldier by choice. Made in America by the Grace of God.

So, now it is ironic that the State whittles away at the right of its citizens to defend themselves from the possible oppression of their State.

So I understand the large legal bounds that are happening on the ATF front, but does this even effet us yet if the CA DOJ is still saying NO you CANNOT accept the non-real ID?

Well that's great news but it means we now probably will have to educate all the gun stores (and maybe the California doj) who might not read every piece of mail sent to them, rescinding the ATFs last restriction on those licenses.

And I wonder if someone at the Ca. doj is thinking "Our evil plans have been foiled again".

When you think about it this should all be a no-brainer.
Even if some non-us citizen gets by and uses the license that says "Federal restrictions apply" and the DROS is sent in it should be denied and red flagged because he's not a citizen and that means he's also lied when he filled out the FFLs 4473 form.

What does being a citizen have to do with the ability to buy a firearm legally?

You’re either legal to buy a gun or your prohibited.

Citizenship status isn't checked if a person marks "US Citizen"... think about it...up until Real ID ... how do they know you're a citizen?

If you have no felonies...(say no criminal background).. and you have a Pre AB60 license (forgot when they started being issued).. How would anyone know you're not a citizen?

Went in for my real ID today at Redlands DMV. I had an appointment. I brought proof of residency, my birth certificate and proof of social security number. I had an appointment and needed to renew anyhow and brought my renewal letter. I was there about 40 minutes total with the promise I would have my real ID within 7-14 days.

7-14 days is acceptable sort of if they hold to it, my interest in this issue you guys have brought to our attention is I get short notice requests to field weld at sites that require back-ground checks and I need to respond quickly, I can deal with postponing a firearm transfer, well, kind of, the DTs might be painful.

My informed delivery tells me I have a DMV envelope waiting for me when I get home. So took nine days.

Anyone here of any change at the CA DOJ from when they said that AB60 licenses are not acceptable? The issue was never with the Feds since a person could bring other documents, but the CA DOJ does not allow that in terms of the license.

No, in my renewal letter, regardless if it was for a real ID or not, told me to come into DMV with letter and take new photo, thumbprint and take a vison test. So I had to do those, but that was not related to the real ID portion. They just scanned and copied my documents and took a new pic and thumbprint. The old pic was from when I was 22 so I guess I can understand that. Vision was still better than perfect so I wasn't worried about that either. What I was worried about was them making sure my renewal was for a Real ID (they stamp that on your application apparently) and that my motorcycle endorsement was on there too. Wasn't too keen on them punching a hole in my old DL, and them giving me the BS paper copy though.......

As far as it stands today, the DOJ is still a firm, no you cannot accept them because their lawyers said so.

Yeah, I know, which is why I wonder why many focus on the BATF when the roadblock is the CA DOJ.

Can FFLs accept a valid CA CCW permit with photo as a form of ID for picking up, along with an AB60 license? I've got a while before my old style license expires, but just curious.
