Can FFLs accept a valid CA CCW permit with photo as a form of ID for picking up, along with an AB60 license? I've got a while before my old style license expires, but just curious.

(c) Unless the purchaser, transferee, or person being loaned the firearm presents clear evidence of the person’s identity and age to the dealer.

As used in this part, “clear evidence of the person’s identity and age” means either of the following:

(a) A valid California driver’s license.

(b) A valid California identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

I called our usual gun store and spoke to one of the DROS gals on March 23rd and was told they COULD accept the DL's with "federal limits apply" to purchase guns..... So I'm curious why this is still an issue on here?

The CA DOJ Firearms Inspector that I talked to said that such licenses could not be used for firearms and no additional documents could be added to make it acceptable and that any dealer caught using one would be written up.

Some people see only the BATF response and don't bother to talk to the CA DOJ. One person who worked at some place kept arguing that it was acceptable, yet had not talked to the CA DOJ and refused to accept that it could be a problem.

Any dealer who has the time and money to be a test case should be able to give the final answer. Any dealer who doesn't have the time and/or money isn't going to take the risk since even if you win, you lose all the time and money spent on dealing with it.

It's probably going to just keep coming up for one reason or another right or wrong, or out of state it won't be accepted for something. Besides do you want the same warning on your ID as an illegal aliens license? One time I got invited to go on base for some F-18 simulator time with short notice. I don't want to miss out on those things life can bring unexpectedly

I was at an easter gathering with 20 people yesterday and not one new about real id. They did not want to have to take birth cert or passport and social security card and utility bill/phone bill in to get renewal.

This has been my experience as well especially with the older crowd. As time goes on this is going to cause massive problems at gun shops especially those that deal with a lot of the older gun buying crowd. The word needs to be spread ASAP especially to those that don't do the internet or CGN. I've already seen the problems happening.

My wife and I went to South Sacramento DMV today (after waiting one month for our appointment) to get our Real ID driver's license. She renewed her DL on Jan 23 and received a "Federal Limits Apply" DL. Mine was last renewed in July 2018. We spent approximately one hour there even with an appointment, but we got what we went there to get. There was no charge, since we were getting our DL "replaced" before April 22. Apparently, so many people complained DMV is giving a 90 day grace period to get the Real ID DLs without charge. When we asked why the clerk didn't ask my wife if she wanted a Real ID DL when my wife renewed her DL in Jan, we were told it isn't DMV's job to educate the general public. Go figure! Also, we were allowed to keep our old DL without them punching a hole in it, as others have reported.

When I was at my DMV appt they were warning random people that didn't know about getting a non real ID if they didn't provide all the stuff to get a real one. The people they were warning didn't seem to care. Maybe there was backlash and now they are encouraged or required to warn people at my local DMV

My LGS wouldn't first wouldn't sell me a gun with the federal restrictions on my DL, so I went to the DMV (3 times!) just to find out that two days ago, they received a notice that they could now accept the Federal Restriction IDs. My DMV also punched a hole in my old ID and my Federal Restrictions ID while I waited for my Real ID. This is just a $#!T show.

I have yet to hear that the roadblock of the CA DOJ has changed their view. It doesn't matter if the BATF says that it is acceptable.

I'm wondering if posing a question on the DES, "Report An Issue" might prompt a definitive answer to this Real ID dilemma?

I doubt it. They will say "call your representative"

During the CA DOJ Webinar law week, Michael Kelly said that the DOJ is tracking the issue, but their lawyers came up with the position, so for now that's what they are sticking with. CRPA/NRA Lawyers are our best bet.

They don't like to give answers in writing. They might say to call, but I doubt that you will get a real answer that can be used.

Went last Wednesday for Real ID. It arrived in the mail today. 7 days from paperwork to mailbox.
