Yup, its was only banned in order to keep Mr. Paper byron in business.
1 acre of yearly renewable hemp makes the same amount of paper as an acre of 25-50 year old trees.

Marijuana is virtually legal, as a needed resource, already! Yet it is illegal to drill for oil as a needed resource! How Phugged up is that?

Actually it isnt legal enough, big paper companies could stop deforestation if it were federally legal to grow hemp for textiles.

their are nutrients and protients (better antioxidants than omega-3) found in cannibis seeds that dont exist anywhere else.

Alot of things could go greener. pun intended.

Some people will say alcohol is different than cannabis (apples and oranges) so the fact that one injures more people than the other is moot.

Not saying its the end all argument by any means, but if we are talking about something being harmful to society or not, the fact that one kills tens of thousands of people from direct causes each year, and the other kills essentially 0 if not 0, I think its a great point.

Just so everyone is clear there is a black market with tobacco as well run by violent street gangs. There is massive cargo theft as well as counterfeit tobacco sales.

There was a story on FOX tonight about an FBI agent who was investigating an illegal cigarette smuggling ring from the USA to Iran and teh FBI agent has been missing for over 4 years. He was apparently kidnapped by the smugglers.

But weed is nearly legal in California and no one ever gets hurt because of it Yeah right! In the past two years I have investigated46 home invasion robberies and shooting over marijuana. We have had 12 confirmed murders over marijuana in the past 11 months.

Yep. No matter what it is, there will be a black market for it... That's why the legalize and poof cartels are gone argument is ridiculous...

Heck, middle eastern terrorist have sold baby formula to raise funds for terrorist activities.

Alcohol is legal. Look at all the black market and crime surrounding alcohol! The argument of legalizing marijuana will solve all the related crime problems is a typical ignorant response for justification.

Smoke your MJ, just don't expect to be entitled to tax payer money for your laziness or future lung cancer costs!

Crime will continue regardless of what becomes of the MJ issue, that's for sure.

Marijuana is not okay at all. I hate what it has done to our culture, 420 tshirts and pot leaf posters are just the norm now. People say that it is harmless, and that alcohol is worse for you, but what about the people that have to smoke constantly throughout the day just to feel "normal"? I know it is the same for alcoholics... but then how is alcohol worse? I can enjoy a drink once in a while, get a bit drunk and not interupt my normal day to day self. But marijuana IS addictive just like cigarettes! Of course there is no nicotine, but the feeling is addictive. The subculture involved is also addictive, people melt into this "club" of pot smokers and get addicted to the lifestyle.

I lost my best friend of 17 years to marijuana, he started dating a girl with a "card" and is now just smoking his life away. He only associates with smokers, he drinks heavily when not smoking to keep his buzz going, he steals money so his gf can get them more pot, he talks about getting a job and getting on the right path but never gets there... so people might say that pot is okay and that its harmless, but i doubt that they have ever seen what it can really do to people.

                      Just my opinion.

My best friend in high school became addicted to marijuana. He could not stop smoking it and it consumed his life. This opened the gates to cocaine and heroin. He died from a heroin OD. The cops found him dead with his arm tied off and a bag of weed in his pocket. Marijuana is a gateway drug for sure.

Just to be politically correct, Marijuana. No need to commingle drugs with marijuana. BTW, It's not just California.

As liberal as I am, marijuana should be decriminalize and not legalize.
