Yes... Some. We don't live in a black and white, absolutes and extremes world.
In all honesty, people should be happy that its an infraction now... You'd be lucky to get a ticket once a year... That's a fraction of the cost the tax would run you if Sacramento had it's way."Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."~M.Twain~Comment

I work in the ED of a large UC hospital. I have seen countless of alcohol related cases come in, but cant recall one marijuana related cases that has come in on any of my shifts, and I can assure you that marijuana use is just as prominent as the alcohol use at the undergraduate level.Comment

I never even implied someone with asthma should smoke, or that it would help them or be beneficial.Evidently you did not read all the information in my post This was near the bottom.
"The THC in cannabis has been shown to have a short term bronchodilator effect. This has lead to suggestions that THC may have therapeutic benefits in asthma. However, the noxious gases, chronic airway irritation or malignancy after long term use associated with smoking would seem likely to negate these benefits."
So inhaling noxious smoke is a good way to treat asthma?
So maybe as I said before the THC should be prescribed in pill form, and at a dosage level where the effects are therapeutic and not hallucinogenic.
But there is a reason why cannabis smokers dont get smokers cough/lung or have trouble breathing. (I know, people cough when they smoke MJ, thats not what I'm talking about). Tobacco (plus the additives) is much much different than pure cannabis material.
Nicotine paralyzes the fine 'hairs' on the inside of your lungs so they can't transfer crap out. There is nothing in cannabis that does this. So the lungs can keep themselves 'relatively' cleaner than a tobacco smoker, and it can get enough oxygen most definitely. Think Phelps, (swimmer).
BTW, I talk in relative terms a lot, personally I think that should be obvious. I know if you smoke something, your lungs wont function as efficiently as before.Last edited by Frozenguy; 03-02-2011, 9:38 PM.Comment

I don't see the alcohol and tobacco cartels strong-arming the local 7-11. Why would they be able to do it when 7-11 is selling Marlboro Greens?Jack

why would it be apples and oranges? What happened when prohibition ended? The alcohol cartels went away (or went into other black-market enterprises) because when your Anheiser-Busch was able to sell direct again, the profit margin for the cartel went away. Why wouldn't it be the same for MJ when Marlboro can just grow acres of MJ out in the open, or in greenhouses, without having to worry about DEA raids. Makes it hard for the cartel to grow the stuff covertly and get it onto the market at a price worth buying for the average consumer. If Marlboro can grow it legally in quantity, it takes away the profit margin for a cartel to gut a house and run an illegal grow inside (with the resulting mold and fire danger).
If the average consumer can buy a pack of Marlboro Greens (that are professsionally cultivated) at the local 7-11 for a fair price, and not have to deal with that back-alley drug dealer who might decide to rob me, that might be selling dirt weed that, why wouldn't he go to 7-11.
My point has always been, how much of the MJ problem that your average LEO sees due to the fact that MJ is illegal. Why does MJ have these problems when something very similar in how it would be grown, packaged, and sold, tobacco, doesn't seem to have the same kinds of problems?Jack

Now, I'm not pro-MJ nor am I a Law Enforcement Officer, but in my experience in EMS and often going to calls with patients being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two; if I had the choice of who take in the back of the ambulance I would definitely choose the pothead or the alcoholic or to the use or any other type of drug.
The alcoholics, methheads, etc. tend to be belligerent even though all I am trying to do is give them medical care that they need usually due to injuries they received while influenced (drunks tend to be injuries from fights, methheads it ranges from burns to fights anything really); but the potheads aren't angry they're usually just preoccupied with the fact that the lights on my light bar flash from red to white really fast.
Pot works a lot like morphine when being used as a pain killer, it doesn't eliminate the pain, it really just makes you forget you have it. In my opinion a majority of these so-called "Doctors" at dispensaries are giving out MMJ licenses for things as horrible as a patient complaining of "getting bummed because I ran out of weed." So IMO the only doctors that should be able to prescribe it are patients' primary physician for chronic and potentially terminal ailments.
If pot were legalized and it became legal to grow it on a large scale here in the U.S., I honestly don't think that its going to solve any of the problems with the cartels, because those cartels aren't going to stop being bad guys just because you made what they were doing legal. I would almost be willing to bet that human trafficking would increase to bring people that would get work in pot fields for the fraction of the cost of an American.
But regardless of whether or not MJ should be legal, the fact remains that it is not unless you have a prescription for it and if you are using it without one you are in violation of the law and I believe that you shouldn't be able to pick and choose which laws you obey. A lot of LEOs I know often times overlook MJ usage because in today's society there are so many other problems that they have to attend to that its not worth their time or energy.
But anyways that's just my $0.02.Comment

That's my point. Legalization would not make them go away. I'm not for it either way. Again, I could give two ****s about it until you effect someone else by your habit."Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."~M.Twain~Comment

Ok so why not put them out of business one thing at a time? ^^^^^
Why not devalue cannibis by legalization, then spend the billions on "the war on drugs" to stop the human trafficing, meth, cocaine, etc.SA TRP Half rail, Glock 21SF, Spikes St-15, Ruger Alaskan .44, Saiga 7.62, GSSF Member
