    CBP?

What exactly do you mean becoming a CBP? In the patrol we call ourselves agents. There is a little rivalry between customs and us, it's relatively friendly now, but not so much in the old days. In the BP we do tend to try to remove ourselves from the "customs" moniker. We were used to the days of being under the Dept. of Justice. CBP is a new animal.

On a side note... It's funny, my old uniforms used to only have the Patrol's Patch on em, now everything has that ugly customs and border protection patch on the right sleeve. I remember when they said we had to get that dang thing sewn on...many weren't pleased.

Anyways, good job coming so far, but dude you need to learn the lingo and if you wanna be an agent say it, not a CBP.

Hopefully I can get back to teach at the academy again, things seem to be ramping up again. If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask. I may seem brash, but I'm a knowledgeable guy who has taught at the BP academy (Firearms of Course!) and always willing to help people out.

p.s. Don't stress over the times of when you are getting what package etc. It seems like forever, took me 14 months, but that's changed nowadays, I remember people taking the test and being at the academy within four months...insane. When things get going they start rolling one after the other. Use this down time to get in better shape.

Federal Agent = BP... Federal Officer = CBP

Green uniform = BP... Blue uniform = CBP

I made sure to learn the difference long ago.

I have been watching some video clips about the Border Patrols and what kind of danger they have to face during work. Wow, it feels like they are in Iraq or so. Home made bombs are thrown from the other side of the border and copper wire boggy traps to cut off agents head while driving their ATV. I always thought I do not have to worry about IEDs and boggy traps anymore, but if I were to get hire. I have to be extra more careful about it.

P.s. I took my test at Holiday Inn, Los Angeles and some people came wearing their pajamas also. One of the test administrative said, "I guess you can just dress anyway you like and show up 10 minutes late to take your test huh."

I'm taking my test in January. Did you guys just use the B.P. study guide? Did you use anything else( like the study guides they sell at borders?) I want to make sure I'm prepped for the test.

I used the study guide and the CD that they send you(the guide and videos from the CD are also available online, you are given the links when you register to take the exam). I scored a 93, and did not receive any extra points as I have no prior mil. experience. If you are taking the ALT, the key is to learn the rules, as the rules are exactly the same on the actual test. The practice exam even makes it a point that the practice exam is taken from an actual(albeit older) copy of the exam you will be taking should you decide to take the ALT.

On that note, I'm still waiting for a date for my oral interview, did you guys receive an email and/or phone call when getting your dates?

Yes, study the material only given by the BP because other aftermarket Border Patrol study guide uses same problems from the official Border Patrol study guide. My total score was 90 because of my prior military service (+5 points). The rules are exactly the same, but the words are different when you actually take the real test. My advice is study everyday for 30 to 45 minutes until the test day. Good luck
