I am in school as well thankfully. Always being ready for the call is one of the toughest parts haha. Waiting six months knowing at any time I could get a call is kind of nerve wracking. Although from everything Ive heard, the job is waay worth it. I just am ready to get my training started! haha

Sad to see it could be two years until I actually start. I took my written test in September or '10, had my orals in January and haven't moved on to drug or medical test. To those of you further than me, is the medical exam and the drug test the same step?
I called the hiring center today just to check in since my status has been "pending" for a while now. She told me they sent out the release for my medical last week so hopefully that means I'll be doing that very soon. In the mean-time I keep applying for law enforcement work but that's few and far between unless you're a lateral. May self-sponsor myself through an academy if this job really could be a year and a half away.Comment

I have seen people go through the hiring process in 3 mos. I have also seen people who take 3 years. There were people in the academy who were still pending backgrounds. I saw a guy get yanked from a class because they found something on his background he forgot to disclose.
People will tell you their opinions of how much longer it will be based off what they heard. Each step in the process is just that....one more step. They don't know the other people in the process and more than likely aren't qualified or even alllowed to be telling you how much longer you have. Yes, it's nice to hear and comforting to know a timeframe. However, there are literally one or two people sitting in the Training and Scheduling office who actually will know when it's time.
Like I've said before.....move on. Pretend like you're not even in the process. When they call you....answer their questions or go to the appointment......then go back to normal life. In the meantime, run......alot. Learn how keep yourself hydrated..especially if you end up going during summer months. There are people who leave the academy due to Rhabdomyolysis (look it up....it sucks). Anyway, good luck to you guys.....I'll get off my soapbox for now.Comment

I saw a thread over on Honor First that addressed the issue of entering the academy before the BI is complete. They were saying that doesn't happen anymore. Apparently they allowed it for the big hiring push back in '08 when they didn't have enough people ready to go. Now they have many people in TSU, so no more of that.Comment
