thank you everyone for your input on the RM class. I'm thinking about using one of my 243s, bolt gun. Low recoil, relatively light weight, 400 yards is ok for target shooting, probably shoot 100 grain Core-Lokt, as I have quite a bit of that ammo on hand; and I can shoot 243 all day long and not feel it, so that's a good thing.

Thank you again for your input

        Hello
Regarding the Rifle Marksmanship class, I heard the skills exam is

        35 & 50 - Standing
75 & 100 - Any position, unsupported by bipod/bag, mag cannot touch the ground
        150, 200, 250, 300, 350 - Any position, bipod/bag ok

Is each skill a single shot?
Does the rifle start at your ready of choice?
        What are the time limits?

        Thank you!

          Two shots at each distance.
I don't remember precisely what ready was used for the standing shots, but you have like 8 seconds. The supported shots you have a certain amount of time to get into position, and then a certain amount of time to make both shots. You can't shoot during the positioning phase. The longer the distance the more time you are given, really the times are generous at all distances...

To me, what matters in RM is the quality, not the chambering, of the ammo I use. The muzzle velocity should be as consistent as factory ammo can be. Since for RM we are still not supposed to use handloads, if you can chrono the different brands and pick the ammo with the smallest standard deviation, you'd probably be further ahead. My favorite for 5.56 is IMI 77gr Razor Core BHTP, followed by IMI 69 gr Razor Core BHTP, followed by ADI Outback MatchKing 69 gr. I don't think you need Federal FGMM for this class, but don't bring Winchester White Box ammo either.

If the .308 bolt rifle is as light or lighter than the AR, that'll work well too. But again, get the most consistent ammo for it.
I agree 100% on the ammo recommendations. I shot IMI 77 gr. Razor Core when I took RM, paired with a quality 18" barrel I was under 1 MOA all day. It's great stuff. Some others were shooting M193, I wouldn't have wanted to do that. I'd rather have as much as the ~3 MOA margin in this class to dedicate to my own errors rather than less accurate ammo.

I got a G but I'm going to go back to take another crack at the DG. This time around I'm going to setup a lightweight 6.5 CM AR-10. What kept me from the DG was my lack of skill of course, and the wind. It kicked up and was blowing in different directions than it has on other days. I'm not a great wind reader so that was a challenge and cost me some points on the test. To combat that, I'm going to go with a round that doesn't get pushed around by the wind as much. Also, more practice in the wind.

Any recent stays at Saddle West? I'm going in a couple of months with my sister-in-law. In the past (5 years ago and longer), Saddle West has always been old and threadbare, but clean and infestation-free. I'm seeing the reviews trending downward, with complaints of filthy rooms and bedbugs (obviously true by looking at the pictures). You can't beat the price, though. Have things changed in the last 5 years?

We stayed there in February and April. Other than the separate dining requirements (can't sit more than 4 people) it was still the same as previous years. Clean, convenient, and cheap.

I had a reservation there last year. Place was NASTY and I checked out at 1am and stayed the remaining nights at the Best Western. Checking in was gross since you have to walk through the casino, so by the time you check in and get your room key you reek of smoke. The rooms are gross. Stains all over the carpet, bathroom was awful. Shower head came up to my chest and kept falling forward and wouldn’t stay up.

I’ve stayed at the Best Western a couple times, Wine Ridge in both the standard cottage and their 2br Casitas and Saddle West. No way id stay at Saddle West again.

Best value at Saddle West is parking spot in RV site. 30/50 amp service and water hook up, dump station on site. Price was $25 per night and quarter run showers, only time inside smokey casino was check in. Been there, done it...once and only once.
Black top was melting in April heat, can't imagine direct sun in July or August.

Dunno. They should bleach the entire room.

Anyone thinking of canceling Adv Martial Arts in 11 days due to rising Covid cases? It would be nice if the entire class was Covid tested prior to starting.
