Standing or sitting is a personal choice.Built the bench. Trying to think of a way to mount it without having to drill into the bench. Im out of $ for this project so im thinking of a way to mount using the 4 holes already there so i dont have to buy an inline fab mount. But might get there handle down the line. Are people loading standing or sitting?
Standing doesnt seem as bad on thecarpet inside than my ild set up in the garage.
I started sitting on a Craftsman stool with back but found that standing is better for my back.
I have Inline Fab stuff also(worth the money if you want a great roller handle or a higher mount.Comment

Hello gentelman,
Ive been setting up my press and needed some help. Im having trouble setting up the ptx expander in 9mm with the powder dispenser.
Basically ive set up the dispenser to let the handle rise to the top on the up stroke, then removed the spring and attached the stop peice for flaring per the instructions. Once i do that i dont have enough room left on the bottom screw to get the case flared enough. Once it does get to flaring right, the powder dispenser oddly is no longer going to the top of the stroke and dropping a full load of powder.
Any help is appreciated and i hope this was kinda of discribed wellComment

I don't reload 9mm but for 40S&W, my process is to screw in the PTX die a little further into the press until I get the powder dispenser handle going its full travel just before the top of the press stroke. This allows me to screw in the bottom stop enough to get my desired flare. If you don't have any travel left in your press after the dispenser handle has reached the top, you won't have any left to do the flare.
The only reason that stop piece is there at all is to take the stress of expanding the case so the pressure of flaring doesn't flex the powder dispenser. This flexing was a flaw in the original design and was alleviated by adding that stop collar. Earlier presses didn't have that and flaring was problematic with the PTX.Comment

Make sure that the screw on the top is nearly bottomed out, just to where it will fit in against the powder measure, so that all of the remaining adjustment is on the bottom, where there is more room to get at the screw. In looking at what I currently have set up for 38 Special, there is only a fraction of adjustment left, hopefully sufficient to dial in your 9mm requirement. There shouldn't be much difference in settings, if the caliber variances are in the PTX length, i.e. the 9mm PTX should be longer than the 38 Special, for example.Hello gentelman,

I will give that a try, i noticed the instructions say to screw out the top of the stop until only 2 teeth of the screw are showing. But the tip being screwed out so far makes the tip of the top screw hit the powder drop abd doesnt leave anything to adjust at the bottom.Comment

For me getting the powder charge weight dialed in first then setting the flare worked best. In my setup, I inserted a empty case, got the powder measure to travel just shy of hitting the top of the cut-out (not physically contacting the top). Then the limit stop screws are adjusted to this point, if clearance is an issue, adjust the allen screws equally. I then dialed in the powder measure to throw my charge. Now is the time to screw the whole thing in or out to get the amount of flare set.
This is a big reason I got two powder throws, one just for 9mm and the other for 45 ACP. Just set and forget, Good luck.Last edited by slopoke; 06-22-2015, 11:13 AM.Comment

I don't use the PTX Stop (aka turnbuckle). I found it was too much headache. The more you tighten it, the less the powder measure rotor turns, PITA. Instead, I purchsed one powder drop and the corresponding PTX expander for each caliber I load and set it in the following manner:
1. Run empty case up into the powder drop.
2. Screw down powder drop into press until poweder measure rotor hits top of its stroke.
3. Back off ram.
4. Screw down powder drop one full turn.
5. Run case back up into powder drop and then check to see if the amount of flare is enough.
6. Continue to screw down powder drop in 1/2 increments to achieve desired amount of flare.
7. Tighten lock ring and forget."Well, looky here. If it ain't the fuzz".Comment

I believe you could have accomplished that with just a lower assembly, a PTX, and a metering insert. The adjustments are captured in the lower assembly with its own LNL bushing and in the dedicated metering insert. For me getting the powder charge weight dialed in first then setting the flare worked best. David K,
First thank you for the reply, i wanted to ask wont screwing down the powder measurer furthur to get the amoubt of flare you want cause the powder dispenser arm to raise to high and bard where its knocking at the top of the stroke not stoping right before it hits like the instructions advise?Comment

This "stop" part prevents that.Comment
