I loaded three rounds today without primers, what's that powder doing in the tray.

Reloading boo boo's

I have NEVER made a mistake!
Of course, I have only loaded 200 rounds of .357 since Santa brought me the Lee Classic Turret and I am still at the "ultra careful" stage of things
.
I think the biggest danger is when I get about 10K rounds in and get relaxed since now "I know it so well" - I found this true with motorcycles in my youth - confidence grows much more quickly than actual skill. I will guard against complacency / over confidence to help insure that when I make mistakes I can hopefully catch them before they make it into one of my weapons.BruceComment

what do you mean? didn't trim short enough? You guys! Learn to single charge your brass, use a reloading block, visually check EVERY round (double and 1/2 or 0 charges are VERY obvious this way) then add the bullets. Skip learning to load on a progressive. go get a "lee loader" (if they can be found now days?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeEl9wZyabc SLOW DOWN! Reloading should not be rushed. I've had a few too deep (setting up dies) I've spilled a little powder and primers on the floor, I've even put primers in backwards. But they were never put in a gun. Worst mistake I had was making 15 rounds (and 100 cases) of 300 blk brass too long. Never trust just 1 source of info while reloading!Retired AccountComment

^^^^ Glad to hear your perfect.
OH by the way. When you did not trim correctly that WAS A MISTAKE.
You should cross check any load.
If that is the only mistake you ever made then you A) have not loaded very long or B) you have only loaded a few cartridges for just a couple of different cartridges.
Sorry to rain on your parade.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

We all make mistakes.
The part that keeps it from getting to a real problem is if you catch the mistake sooner than later.
I'm pretty thoughtful when I'm reloading and have a small can of mixed oopsies to take back down. Stuff happens.
I did learn on a progressive but I knew I would end up with one anyway. Longer learning curve but was worth it. I agree most should learn on a single stage.
The one that stands out the most right now is forgetting to put the pin back into the primer pick up tube, picking up a box of 100 flipping the tube to stow it and flinging those babies all over the bench and garage. Only found 87 that night. They still show up periodically.
Found one the other day when I was grinning something to weld and a spark must have landed just right. Kinda keeps you on notice.Comment

New (to me) Dillion 650 with case feeder set up to reload SP 45 ACP. Ran out of brass in the hopper so without thinking, I grabbed another jar of 45 brass and dump it in the hopper. Couple pulls later, I'm getting primers in the catcher and noticing powder on the shell plate.
No matter how hard you try, you can't seat small primers in large primer pockets.NRA Life Member

Do you read the names of people who post or is everyone besides you that posts the same person?^^^^ Glad to hear your perfect.

done the same thing with the lyman 1200 and ball powder goes everywhere!!! occasionally i'll get out of sync charging cases and forget to move the funnel. needless to say it's obvious real quick because i only reload for rifles currently. couple times my immediate instinct was to take the funnel off, which of course dumps powder in the loading block and all over the desk. that's about the time i clean up and walk away. anytime you say, I've never......you need to add "yet" on the end of it. until you're dead, you're not done screwing up.Comment

With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Had some trouble figuring out a Lee crimper. The collets sometimes bind and mushroom cases at the neck down. I pooched a handful of cases before figuring it out. A little polishing and lube in the die seems to have fixed things.
Germz- glad you weren't hurt with that Hornady die kiss. You could've been like the lady who talks through her trachea telling kids not to smoke on TV.Comment

My first rounds I deprimed with a Lee manual reloading kit tool. Then I primed 100 rounds without resizing. Finally got a turret and first few rounds the bullets dropped to the bottom of the case. DarkMod tipped me off that the depriming rod could be removed - I have made every mistake known to man but have learned from each one.
Seriouslly if your head is in the game you shouldnt make mistakes. But we are human...
Whats interesting is of all the mistakes in this thread, I have yet to see a post about faulty components...
QUESTION:
Does it happen? Yeah old powder or contaminated primers, but I dont think they will hurt you..
Any component failures which are dangerous?
