I have spent hundreds of dollars this week! Why, oh why do I have to keep finding brass for 3.8 cents apiece (shipped!) and buy it all up? Now I have to try my luck with bullets and see if I can get the same kind of deals! A vicious cycle.

By the way guys, if you're searching auction sites and just looking for penny auctions, you're missing out. I'm finding the best deals have starting prices between 5 and 10 dollars; I just paid $18.00 for 750 pieces of .40 brass, shipped, because the bidding started at six bucks. I figure you already know but CalGuns has great deals too, I just bought 400 bullets for a little over half of retail.

No one with an IQ of two digits or more ever said that reloading was "cheaper". Just wait until you grow up and start reloading normal sized rounds like 50BMG. I know people who pay $3.50 or more per piece of brass, +$3 per bullet, 50 cents and up per primer and about a buck per round for premium VV 20N29 powder. Then, there are the guys who make their own or pay to have someone else make custom bullets to their specifications at whatever it costs.

That said, my match 50BMG rounds run me about $3 each total! I cast and load my own pistol rounds so, .25acp to .44mag costs me about $3 per box of 50!!!!!!!! Just wait until you invest in casting equipment.

As a reloader, I've spent more during the ammo scare. Had I not been a reloader, I would have given up shooting and taken up more realistic hobbies like space tourism or curing cancer.

To save money at reloading you need to be smart! If you run around buying small quantities of components you will not save money, you might even lose money. I buy in bulk.

Just don't ask me about the $2300 press that I use only for 9mm
Also, lets not mention the other press (dillon 550) and various tools that go with it. And, forget about the casting equipment, especially the PID controlled lead pot.

I put more money into shooting than if I didn't reload, but I shoot far more than people who don't reload.

Reloading gives me more bang for my buck.

I guess I'm the only one that started reloading to "save" money....it takes a lot of creative bookkeeping to delude myself into thinking that, but I do!

reloading is cheaper per round. Depends on your volume, caliber and how long you've had your press. I bought my presses in 1998, they are amortized by now.

Everytime I go looking for .22lr at Walmart, and there happens to be ammo there, I look at it, then don't buy it and imagine that I just saved myself $10.


I sort of reload to avoid ammo-dependence from stores, mostly because my first gun was a .303 British Enfield, so cheaper and sensible to reload for it.

Reloading is definitely cheaper in a lot of different calibers, especially magnum pistol for me.

And I don't get up and stand in line at Wally World in the morning like they are giving away free hams. I also have at least a thousand loaded rounds of any caliber I shoot, and components to load a thousand more, while lots of people are whining that there is an ammo shortage.

Buying in bulk and watching for deals is key to saving money.

The life of quality reloading presses etc is in the 20 +year range. The brass can be reloaded many times so do the math. reloading is way cheaper. Plus it is fun.
