I guess I look at reloading in a slightly different way than some. My reloading equipment are just tools of a different sort. I have a whole garage full of tools I bought because I hate paying someone to do something I can do myself (and often better) because I like learning new things and the satisfaction of saying to myself "yep, I built that".

Plus, If I ever decide to stop reloading the tools have value and can be sold.

So it's not just about the possibility of saving money. It's the process and what I learn along the way.

So assuming you are getting 10 uses per piece of brass, your price drops to $0.12 a case instead of $1.20

Therefore, you cost per box of 20 is even lower.

There are many reasons why people reload. Bottom line there's a goal to be met.

If your goal is loading for econimcs and you haven't achieved that then something is wrong.
Man, this place has gone bonkers.

Just gave the thread a quick perusal... didn't see anybody mention one big factor...

...during the Great Ammo Droughts of '09-'10 and '13 having ammo at all was never an issue for some of us...

Some of us have issues with storage space...

          Continue the debate.

People say buy in bulk but what's bulk noawdays by the thousands or
            Or by the pallets

Last time I check I reload

            9mm .12cent per round
            40s&w .15 cent per round
            45acp .17cent per round
            308win .55cent per rounds

And I just buy per thousand even 500.
I have a pretty basic set-up bought what I need
and already broke even, been loading for almost
A year and I jut started loading 308 lately

I'm pretty sure people pay less than what I'm
            Loading

Don't ever pay for brass! Hit up your local indoor range on a weekday. Take 50 rounds of .22lr. Leave with several hundred pieces of brass. Some places are so nice that they have buckets of brass against the back wall! Also hit the indoor range on a weekday, then ask the guys next to you that rented a gun and bought a few hundred rounds if you can have thier brass. Repeat a few times and you'll be waist deep in brass.

Yep, the start up cost is substantial, but when they make you buy an ammo card and go through a back ground check every time you buy ammo, AND implement a per unit tax on our ammo, it will be worth the extra money to be able to practice.

I have 2K of 5.56 brass, 750 .357 and 500 .44 mag in zip lock baggies in my garage, once shot. My son and I always pickup our brass

What do you feel the startup cost will be for all three calibers? I'm talking everything. Let say middle or the road stuff.

I have looked into if before and I know the straight wall cartridges are easier to load. I haven't invested in anything because of the panic and I really didn't shoot much until this past year...

Thanks and enjoy your holiday weekend

Might want to check the rules. I would consider brass in a bucket to be somebody else's unless told otherwise.

If they told me it was fair game I'd probly spend my whole range session sifting the bucket!

But if you reload & don't shoot more, then it is cheaper!

I've been reloading for 15 years. Loaded & shot 13,000 rounds the first year, About 7,000 the second year. Now I average about 3,000 rounds a year. So yeah, it is cheaper!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.
