Yes , the Benjamin will set them off . Too cautious - maybe .
A few years ago , someone put a bunch of M T spray cans in garbage ,
someone else threw away oil - what set it off - who knows .
I keep my primers in with the bullets . [ in a small ice box ] another Ice box has powder in it . My Cartridges and kept in safe with the guns .
I prefer to instill fear and caution into people I train / teach to reload .
I am a big believer in when in doubt toss it out and replace .

If you care , I used to just staple cardboard to a piece of plywood until the plywood / cardboard caught on fire . Now I use furring strips to raise cardboard / target off plywood . After using the 1 X 2 furring strips , I found the shell with the lop sided primers could also be put on cardboard . If you have split , bulged or cracked cases - put in a primer and shoot them . This is a good way to build up mussel memory

A nephew has a CO2 pistol and after about 6 - 8 shots , the primer will be pushed threw paper and not go off . It is I think a Browning about the same weight as a 1911 .

Good for you. as long as we all know the truth

I would think that a piece of tape (think MASKING or PACKING) over a primer might secure it well to a board. Then blast it. Imma try it out maybe in a few weeks. I gotta find a primer that I want to sacrifice first though. Dammit, I knew I shoulda grabbed the ones at Bullseye and ran instead of letting them dump oil all over em...

Way to ruin a good FUD thread, man. We don't come onto the internet for "facts"! We'd rather think about exploding garbage trucks and shrapnel-projecting campfires causing death and disfigurement!

Ha Ha! What the hell was I thinking....????

I think I'll go out to the burn pit now and toss in some propane cylinders and old parachute flares.

                  Don't forget the gunpowder!

By the way, old gunpowder is my secret to growing the biggest, juiciest citrus in my neighborhood. Mmmmm . . . life is good.

Also like the way Burt Munro did it in "The Worlds Fastest Indian"!

I'm with Stilly and a few others. If the cup isn't deformed and the primer isn't struck it gets installed in brass, loaded, and then disposed of properly. This is the correct answer to a primer that simply fell on the floor. Or, you can put a set of ear protection on and hit it with a hammer - problem solved.

Apparently Mayor McRifle would like to double-down on making light on the fire hazards associated with modern reloading components and open flame.

While the YT clip was informative, remember, these tests where performed on a fire fighting testing range with all firefighter dressed in full protection gear standing behind cover or at a safe distance.

It is quite obvious even to the most obtuse that these sporting arms fire tests all produced numerous hot flying embers that could easy start a secondary fire and cause injury.

                        To prove my point:
Take a trip to burn unit at your local country hospital. Find a MD or RN whom attends to innocent burn victims on a daily basis, and tell them your going to end this evening barbeque festivities by throwing a half empty pack of Federal Small Pistol Primers in the fire.

The OB definately has an important primer disposal safety question.

The YT clip was directed at the penetration hazard associated with loaded cartridges in a fire. While informative & entertaining, the clip did not directly address the OP's concern of safely handling primers.

Any insinuation on a public forum that primers can be properly disposed of by campfire is as dangerous behavior as it is moronic behavior.

This reminds me of a conversation I had a few weeks ago:

A man with an obvious deformity caused by self-handling of a single primer in his reloading garage, informs me of the innocuous nature of large quantities of ammunition set ablaze, on purpose, in a controlled environment for educational purposes.

This is one of the stupidest, if not funniest threads I've read.

I've dropped 100s of primers on the ground in my years of reloading. I've picked all of them up I could and loaded every single one. Not one has failed to go BOOM. SPP, LPP, SRP, & LRP all BOOM.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.
