I was at the shooting range, and there was a guy wearing a camo baseball cap right next to me attempting to unload his Glock.

He removed the magazine, racked the slide 20 times rapidly, locked the slide back, inserted a magazine, pointed it at the ground, and pulled the trigger in an attempt to dry fire it.

The bullet hit almost 2 inches away from my toe.

I'm think I'm gonna take a break from guns for awhile.

I fully understand. I stopped going to public ranges sometime in '03 or '04 for a similar reason.

I shot exclusively on BLM land in the desert for many years until just this summer when I decided to go back to a local range due to the high cost of fuel and time involved to get out to my desert shooting spots.

I'm not familiar with any BLM areas near you, but I'd suggest at least looking into it.

sounds like you have a need to assess your neighbors at the range more critically than you need to stop shooting. Still, I stopped going to the range for very similar reasons.

Yeah, seems like more of a reason to stop shooting at public ranges than to stop shooting altogether.
