I thought it was a little presumptuous of Jay to think he should mess with the M1A's sights just because the gun was not shooting POA for him, when it was already dialed in for everyone else on his team.

You can tell he wasn't thinking about the good of the team right there, but only himself. However, I might have done the same thing under the pressure to preform.

I will say he is growing on me due to his ability to get it done under pressure.

Darryl's insecurity issues are proportionate to Jay's "know it all" mentality. They are both annoying.

Jay sounded like a douche when he said "don't teach me a new style, just show me how to shoot faster".. but he was 100% right. Who in their right mind would switch their entire pistol grip hours before a pistol match?

I was rooting for Jermaine too. Even though dude suffered a mental breakdown during the event.
What ticks me off the most is that Jay got the $2000 dollar BassPro gift card. LOL

That comes from his golf experience. Why change your 'swing' mid tourney?

Smart I would say as well.

All I know is if I decide to take golf lessons I want Jay to teach them. He is definitely focused and knows what he knows.

Ironically, the new style does allow him to shoot faster than the cup and saucer technique he uses. However, he's still right that you don't make changes just before a competition.

I'm sure he see it as just wrong that Jay is even there, having never paid his dues in developing his skills. It would crush him if they were in a Elimination together, he's be so worried about losing to the Golf Pro that he wouldn't be able to shoot!
I think you're absolutely correct. You saw this same dynamic in Season One with all the older men hating on Kelly - mainly because he was young, hadn't "paid his dues" (despite being a competitive long distance rifle shooter), and just basically didn't fit in with the whole macho, ex-military, ex-cop, crotch-grabbing, bicep-flexing world of Oo-Rah! And Hooah!

Imagine my delight last season when Kelly eliminated Mike in the first elimination challenge.

Still - I find Jay a bit annoying. He does (sort of) represent the everyman among us, because he doesn't have a LE or military background, nor was he a competitive firearms shooter, but at least Kelly kept his mouth shut and tried (for the most part) to just observe and listen, while Jay comes off as presumptuous and uppity.

                    Editing.

Kelly was a "nice kid" and the viewers wondered why everyone was hating on him.

So they're giving us a reason to hate Jay.

^ I know. And it's part of why I mostly detest reality TV. They write scripts making certain characters out as good guys and others as bad guys when all of them are probably similar.

However, while I'm sure there's a fair amount of editing to create the "faces" and "heels" that the producers want - I'm sure that in pre-production, the reason they do interviews is to try and get a sense of the contestants' personalities, and thus get a wide range of personality types which makes for entertainment when they inevitably create friction amongst each other.

Jay probably IS somewhat annoying, which is enhanced by the editing, while Daryl probably IS intolerant of non-LE and non-Texans, which is also enhanced by the editing.

Cool that we've got some of the S2 contestants here on CG!
And to the people busting their chops, it is a reality TV show.
Just because they act a certain way on the show, might not be reflective of their real personalities.

It would be fun if nothing else. I don't really have any desire to be on TV or anything anymore, but History Channel would be cool. Plus Top Shot is the only reality show I like and I ignore the reality parts.

I gotta wonder how much the producers play with the challenges to try to get the results they want. For example, Brad in TS1 had to do an elimination challenge on a freakin' zip line. Jay gets to stand 15 feet away from static plates and shoot them.

No slamming Jay...he manned up and got the job done, but I wonder if the producers thought, "Hmmm. Jermaine vs. Jay...let's go with Elimination Challenge A6 since it's an easier one." and got the dramatic result they were hoping for.

And as for him being bossy and self-centered, it still amazes me the number of Calgunners who don't get the fact that the producers pick and choose the clips they want to achieve the emotional effect they are going for. They are under no obligation to portray the true personality of each participant, and actively put people in bad light if it makes for good TV.

                            This.

Also, pay close attention to the video editting. For the elimination challenge, they cut and paste and replayed the same misses multiple times.

They have an agenda, and that is to manufacture a group dynamic to make the show more interesting.
It's working too...after all it stirred up a 12 page forum debate most of which is about whether we like Jay or not. Would we be talking about this show as much if it wasn't for how they portrayed Jay?
Otherwise we'd just say "Woah nice shot, wish I could try that...." then run out of things to say. We don't keep watching shows we're not as emotionally vested in. Emotions win viewers and the tv industry knows that.

Plus I'm biased. He's from Fullerton, my hometown. =P
