I've bought several guns at Bright Spot and have never had a single issue. I've also done PPTs and internet purchases there. I would not hesitate to buy there in the future.

They have been on the OLL front line for a while and have been put thru the mill by ATF, DOJ, Riverside PD and Sheriff and have come out OK. I can understand why they were insistent on having the proper paperwork before shipping. Based on some of the things the OP did during the transaction, my guess is that he was not facilitating the transfer properly.

While the people at Bright Spot may have made some errors, it was wrong for everyone to jump on the "theft" bandwagon simply based on the OP's statement. They're not going to risk their FFL over one transfer that had 'fail' all over it from the time the OP shipped it there.

i heard good things in the past too,but you know what this the present .
and brightspots rep is destroyed for their actions,they accepted the gun ,they also chose to sit on it while making the real owner squirm in pain, they knew that what they were doing and still never cared. all this in my view is a mortal absolute SIN against the firearm community. i would never trust them and never will. I am one of those people that only extends one bridge and when someone burns it i stand guard at that shore with a flamethrower to keep it burned so that i never deal with them again... end rant

Retail LP is a lot easier since the Constitution doesn't apply to private individuals... makes it a LOT easier to gather evidence since there's no need for those pesky warrants and employees can't refuse to talk to you.

Working retail security/loss prevention is not the same as working in law enforcement. I have thousands of arrests under my belt, and not just for shoflifting. Apples and Oranges.

It can not be a theft because it lacks 'specific intent' to permanently deprive the owner of his property. The gun was not shipped because of procedural issues complicated by California and Federal law. If you tried arresting the FFL for theft, he'd have a good false arrest case against you.

I know Dan and the guys at Bright Spot. I have been dealing with them for several years and have always found them to be fair and honest in their dealings. They have been raided by ATF, DOJ, Riverside SO and PD for selling "Assault rifles" when they were actually off list CA compliant rifles. They have been under a microscope for a while and various alphabet organizations have been trying to shut them down. The are a client of a powerhouse law firm reverred here on CalGuns. I'm sure they were consulting with them during this whole incident. They are very srict in following all of the regs concerning firearms transactions because they have been under strict scrutiny from the various regulating agencies. Can you blame them?

I will continue to support Bright Spot. I am sorry the OP had difficulties, but I'm sure some of the problems were on his end. I offered to assist days ago, and never heard from him. His own posts showed that he failed to follow up on some things.

And for those wanting Dan to come in and explain, from what I understand, he doesn't spend a lot of time on CalGuns.

In fairness, we are only hearing one side of the story.

Bob got involved, and we know positively that the SF FFL faxed the information, and the gun appeared 2 days later.

Maybe the SF FFL faxed their information and the fax was misplaced by an employee? No way to know.

I was Military LEO since then, I was also an Electrician and a PI and a Loss-Mit Investigator, Student and teacher and trainer and Supervisor, a Regional Manager. Theft is theft my friend Apples and Oranges. Correct I learned how to investigate, not assume.

You would NEVER survive working for me. I don't allow that kind of work ethic.. If you tried arresting the FFL for theft, he'd have a good false arrest case against you...... so why even talk to him.... heck he may admit he sold the gun to a 16yr old gang banger who shot his girlfriend...and that may mean you have to do even more interviews...oh no..WORK bad...donuts good...

If Bright Spot is as reputable and under a microscope as a few of you say, maybe they should keep better records as to the actual disposition of firearms in their care.

I think anyone who reads this thread is entitled to make their own decision to boycott them, I know I will, but chances are I'd never have considered using them in the first place.

Posted 12/2: I hope its not Bright Spot, they don't sound like they would do something like that however. Centerfire sounds possible, but J&W Guns sounds more suspect.

I hate to hear about that. As for if they browse Calguns I know Chris use to rock Calguns.net baseball cap awhile ago. Dan has always been super nice to me and I have purchased and picked up multiple guns and transfers there before they had their license revoked and got another.

I haven't been there in some time now since my shooting has slowed so I don't really know how they are doing now. I think I will keep using them until something goes wrong for me if it happens.

Glad you got your gun back. Not a knock on you, but I hope this goes to show that you should really get money in hand before shipping out the firearm. Doing that may had avoided this whole mess.

I have no experience with Bright Spot pawn, but let me say this to the OP...

If you couldn't get you gun released in 2+ months, then someone steps in, makes a few phone calls and you get it back in days, I'm thinking that you bear more than a little bit of responsibility in this situation.

If Oceanbob says he'd deal with these guys again, then I'm going to take his advice as well as the advice of the other satisfied customers coming out of the woodwork over someone who can barely put together a cogent sentence.
