Let's make up a fictitious story for the sake of an argument or debate.

Joestactical.com has a big sign he wants to place on calguns.net and he has this product that is going to fill a void. He talks with the owner who says "Joe, I think you have a great idea and I will be one of your first customers" "and not only that but I'm going to tell my buddies about it".

Now 3-4 months later the parts are defective or the product does not live up to the hype. (crossed eyes) the jerk

I'm confused. Which one of leelaw's posts did you find so incredibly offensive?

There are 2 companies (GPal and Calguns.net) and a completely separate non-profit entity (The Calguns Foundation). You mention that Ben was "on the board" of calguns. He was on the board of CGF not CGN. Kes is the owner of CGN, lee-law and others are moderators for CGN. Kes and the other moderators have no control over who is on the board of CGF.

Maybe Kes or one of the other moderators can give more background on this, but I just wanted to point out a mistake that I had made in the past, and looked like you were making here.

This isn't exactly true. Kes is on the board of CGF(so of course he has a say at CGF)as was Cannon. Kes at one time set up a board of directors for CGN and Cannon was one of the 3 on the board. He abolished the board and became the sole owner again, but for a time Cannon was an "owner" of calguns.

The above is the reason Cannon list owner of Calguns on all his online resumes and in the signature of all forums he is a member of. He has even stated and still does online that he was the founder and owner of Calguns.

So for people to not see a difference between GPal and CG is very understandable. Especially given the fact that GPal is so co branded with CG as is GeoVario. So while "we" may know the separation on paper of the business entities. To say that there is no conflict of interest or personal overlapping in this whole mess is just foolish.

if you are on a boar of directors anywhere, does that autmatically make you an owner ? (ignorant question. ) what I am saying is can you be an advisor and be on a board? or no :shrugs:

'The Board' is like the governing body of an organization. It's where all important decisions are made, plans are formulated for the direction of the company/organization.

thanks, I do under stand that, but do you have to be a stockholder, ie an owner to be on a board?

You don't need to be an owner, but almost all board members have a stake in the company. Now remember CGF is a non profit, so there would be no financial stake in that.

There needs to be some clarification here.

First, there is no GPal board of directors that I am aware of. There was a GPal Board of Advisors. As a member on the GPal Board of Advisors, I was simple eye candy. Like all of us, I thought GPal was a great concept and I wanted to be a positive recommendation for it.

As a GPal Board of Advisor member, I had zero ownership with the company. I received zero compensation for it. I was simply on an e-mail list when Ben wanted to float an idea by someone. It really was that simple.

Ben also used to be a Calguns Foundation Board Member. Hence he has a relationship with most of us. So it makes sense to ask your buddies to help you out.

Ben resigned from the CGF for personal reasons.

Now there is no tie between CGF, Calguns (which is separate from CGF and is completely owned by Kestryll), or GPal.

When the list of Board of Advisors was still on the GPal page, I was getting e-mails about people's problems with GPal. I would respond that I was simply on the board of advisors and I had no control and actually little information about what was going on. However, I would forward the e-mails to Ben Cannon and try and reassure people that Ben is was not the type to steal people's money. I still believe that.

In fact, I too am currently waiting for some of my money to be released.

To those of you who are out money, like me, I apologize for the difficulties we are experiencing with GPal. I have zero control over it, but my name was associated with it. I still have hope that GPal might recover and that is why I don't mind still receiving GPal payments. However, that is a risk that I chose to take.

At this point there isn't much we can do other than wait. Some of the people that have contacted me have received their money. So I know GPal still works. I know Ben is still in the country.

There is no grand conspiracy and the whole situation is quite simple. Ben Cannon owns GPal. Ben Cannon actually does not own Geovario, but was once a partner there and Geovario is still quite sound. Ben Cannon is not on the CGF board any longer. Ben Cannon does not own Calguns.net.

A bunch of Ben Cannon's friends supported his run to make GPal a successful and useful alternative to the clearly anti-gun PayPal. Unfortunately things are not going as smooth as we would all like. I am not going to pretend to be happy about it, but I am not going to pretend like I had much to do with it either. I wish my name were powerful enough to force people to do business with others, yet it is not. In the end Ben Cannon is responsible for what happens to GPal. He owns it.

We are all stuck waiting right now. Be patient and your money will come. I am in the same boat.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Default An apology to Ben Cannon
I need to publicly apologize to Ben Cannon (artherd) for accusations of fraud made in relation to the raffle of his .308 Bushmaster rifle.

The accusation that Ben had rigged the raffle stemmed from a conversation between Ben and I, where I suggested he ask Ben to rig the giveaway in jest. Ben joked about it as well and I misunderstood him. After I made it an issue with other members here and it became an accusation, Ben contacted me again and told me it had never been his intention to rig the raffle for the other member to win. He was at a loss as to where this came from, till I reminded him of our conversation. Once I realized I was wrong it was too late.

To be clear: Ben never intended to rig the raffle in the way I accused him. I was wrong, and I apologize.

I should have realized that Ben's statements were a joke, just as mine were and taken them as such, or spoken to him directly if I had concerns before approaching others. For whatever reason, I did not, and as word spread amongst other people it was inevitably posted publicly on the board.

I screwed up, and I apologize.

I deeply regret publicly coming forward with my suspicions regarding the activities of a highly respected and influential member of Calguns, Ben Cannon, when I did not at that time possess incontestable proof of wrongdoing on his part. It is not a mistake I will repeat, nor do I have any interest in pursuing or even discussing this matter any further.

I have some funds in GPal. I'm leaving them there for now. I trust that GPal will get working again, as well as I hoped in the beginning.

IIRC Kes has noted that Ben isn't the majority owner of GPal - but this was in another thread. I don't work the search function here well, and don't know how to look it up.

As a well known person on some forums I can tell you people sometimes take shots at others based on incomplete and/or inaccurate information. Also, this is the web, and it's easy to miss nuance or misinterpret posts.

Everyone should do what they think is right for them.
