I know it’s been said over and over, but it cannot be understated. If you do not shoot your edc you are a fool asking for trouble.

I shoot my EDC's every range visit and keep a journal of rounds fired through each firearm I shoot that day. I wish I could get to the range more but right now it's 8-10 times a year...

Do you recall what was different in the qualification protocol? Been some changes for '19 I guess...

I shoot my m&P 2.0c at every tac two gun match. This my winter carry gun.

I shoot my vp9sk at IDPA matches. This is my winter gun.

That was my first re-qual. Not much different than 2yrs ago.

                  EDC..... what's that??

No such beast exists around here. Not in communist northern California East Bay or anywhere in the Bay Area.

Anybody carrying a gun with less than 500 rds thru it to break in and at least another 200 without any hiccups is an idiot. Anybody not shooting their carry gun frequently, should not have a ccw.

What would be the argument for not shooting it? Afraid it will wear out? Don't modern handguns last for around 100,000 rounds? Surely that's got to be at least 10 years for most of us.

I always bring a bunch of guns to the range. The only ones that make EVERY trip are the guns that I carry or use for self defense. I shoot a standard Glock 19 Gen5 in competition to practice with, not because I want to win, but because I want to practice.

I shoot my primary CCW monthly at the local indoor range's combat pistol league.

My secondary CCW has not been shot in a while but its a full size 1911 that I used to shoot in single stack USPSA matches

Probably 1k through the primary and 2k through the secondary.

can you define 'shooting your EDC'?

standing behind a bench in a static range and calling it 'shooting your EDC' means nothing because it might as well be any other gun in your stable.

an EDC gun is in a different class all together from what is in your safe that is not listed on your CCW or a gun you use in competition.

question should be 'how often do you TRAIN with your EDC'?

                            Meaning:

                            1. practice shooting strong hand or support hand because your other hand may be occupied with a phone, child, loved one, etc.

                            2. understanding post engagement practices and what to do IF you've needed to use your EDC to neutralize a threat.

                            3. night shooting with a flashlight and understanding that a WML is NOT a flashlight.

                            4. sucking it up and swallowing your pride and learning to run or walk away.

                            5. preparing to fight for your life in the case the EDC is compromised via malfunction or it is taken from you.

                            6. shooting from retention and clearing garments to do so.

                            7. shooting on the move or behind barriers or cover and concealment.

                            8. practicing all types malfunction clearing

                            9. learning basic first aid or even advance trauma care in the case you need to render aid to a loved one or even the person you neutralized.

                            10. training WITH your kids or significant other because if they've never been around a gun in a stressful situation they may just be a liability because you said "they're too young to be around guns" or "my wife doesn't like guns". Ever been with your kid when they first saw fireworks? what do you expect them to do when you're yelling at them or trying to grab them and shoot at the same time?

There is so much to EDC that unfortunately people get it and call it good and call themselves a responsibly armed citizen. Its pretty sad to think that CCW courses are all one thinks they need and are good to carry.

Some good points and it's why I choose to shoot my EDC in the local combat pistol league monthly.

I draw from concealment (they run open and concealed "divisions"), strong hand/weak hand shooting, shooting on the move, reloads on the move, using simplified cover (standing and using barricades), etc.

It's not hardcore training but it keeps me sharp with weapon manipulation. I also do dry fire practice like I do with my competition setup. This goes to #6.

The rest of the stuff you mention is also important.

#4 is the biggest one I think. A lot of people can't walk away when they are not armed, just think about the ego's when they feel they have the advantage of a gun. Personally I have never let things bother me like that. At 6'4" and 300 lb I rarely have to deal with anyway.

#8 I personally get via competition but everyone should get some dummy rounds and have a buddy randomly put them in your mags (or not!) and practice practice practice. Learn the two primary methods only and apply them to all scenarios. Tap/rack and strip/rack/rack/rack/reload.

#9 is tougher as a real trauma kit is not something easy to pack around daily. To have one in your backpack or car though is good. And learn to use it's components. A tourniquet is easy enough to EDC but I'll admit I don't carry one outside my trauma kit.
