I have 2 Shield 9's and they are used a lot.

I figure it pays to be competent with what you might need to be competent with.

They should but that is not what I understand... I am told many carry without actually doing any range time or training.

Some states don't require any class or training to carry. CA only requires an eight hour class and thirty rounds down range for a CCW.

they wouldn't be locked in a safe. Glock 19 (for the sake of the argument) #1 would be the training gun, 100's of rounds a month + classes + etc; g19 #2 (configured identically to #1) would be the carry gun, maybe 50 rounds a quarter.

I get that I'll not likely wear it out with shooting, but why put the extra miles on it or take the chance? Sure the EDC will get the 5,000 round inaugural torture test, but once you pop that cherry why do any more?

I don't get why some guys are so particular about their expensive defensive ammo that they cycle it through their gun before it's imaginary expiration date, but then you're gonna eat into its reliability by putting more rounds downrange for training? Find a known good condition, and stay there.

5,000 rounds is a nice cherry

                  What's an EDC?

                  People actually get those?

I'd venture to say that the average ccw'er/calgunner cycles many more rounds and range time than the average police officer does (off duty...and maybe even if you count qual) in a year, too.

I live in a constitutional state so I can carry what I want, when I want so in the colder months I carry a Sig 1911 tac ops in 45 auto while warmer months I carry a Glock 36.
I have two steel silhouettes on my property so I shoot 1-2 mags usually twice a week.

The mentality of California's laws make it so its hard to shoot, hard to own, hard to find ammo and the biggest issue its hard to get a CCW.
If you aren't training with your carry gun your doing a disservice not only to yourself but anyone around you.

I would hope you are correct. However I am sure there are many people that carry that do not frequent this or any other forum.

A review of licensing requirements shows that in more than half the country, applicants are not required to demonstrate their shooting ability.
