It's none of their business and I don't answer it. End of story.

From a mental health standpoint it is only relevant if there is a concern about suicide or homicide risk. I'm never going to take somebody's gun rights away... Unless they tell me in no uncertain terms that they are going to harm themselves or someone else, and then I'm legally required to request a 5150 hold (I cannot actually do a 5150, only LEO and certain healthcare providers), which currently has a 10 year prohibition on firearm posession.

Per the question about the child and relevance, it's useful to know if there's a possibility that the child could have or gain access to the firearm. I can't force anyone to comply with safe storage practices, but some people just don't think about the risk of a loaded and unsecured gun in the underwear drawer. Asking the question provides an opportunity for education.

I've always expected this question and never been asked....

        disappointed
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)

My answer was, "lots of them.". Turns out my Dr (a female) is also in to guns so we spent the next 15 minutes discussing guns.

What if I go out shooting with a couple of my medical providers every few months?

The big question that my long time family physician recently asked me, was how my industrial leg/ knee injuries held up during my recent 800+ mile R/T road trip. That was from last month when I went to Lakeview/ Lake County Oregon to apply for my Oregon Non-Resident CHL license.

Plus he was interested in hearing of the process in applying for a CHL in Oregon.

Lots of doctors work for a practice or follow some guidelines that ask that question. You don't have to answer truthfully. And it's a crap shoot whether the doctor will actually make a hubbub about it or not if you answer truthfully.

                  Just wright...

" My last doctor's office cleaning crew used that information to commit burglaries and because of the large lawsuit I can't say any more than that, by the way is your liability insurance up to date before people answer personal questions like these???

Just check the box below marked yes or no.

[] Yes (I'll be part of your lawsuit)

                  [] No ( I'll be sued for being underinsured. ) "

The question is what happens to the data? I would assume it is entered into one’s medical file. Your insurance company has access to that. Potential reason for a rate adjustment? Medicare has access. Government agency. Nuff said.

Maybe the lesson here should be to decline to answer any of these questions at all. Once you pushed back about one question out of the many, they knew you wanted to hide something.

The doctor used to ask my daughter when she was in her teens. She was smart enough to answer "no". Two more times of "no" and that was it.

Saw my Kaiser Dr. last Thursday. He only asked one question, "Is there any Abuse going on at your house". I was kinda surprised, told him no. He didn't ask anything else.

I put N/A and usually no followup by the nurse, if there is followup I indicate that it is none of their business. Haven't yet been asked by the doctor.

As for lead exposure, my time in the refineries and chemical plants had much worse issues than lead exposure from gunfire.

It is NOT being asked because of lead.... You hopefully know that.. Followed up by the question and are they properly locked up??

Lead worries in shooting is OVERBLOWN... Should they ask if you wear a seat belt and drive at or below the speed limit?
You support banning lead ammo in California?? Lead sinkers etc???

Well that's a bit out of left field. You were nicer to the doctor than I would have been. But, I probably would have told him "none sir" - simply to end the conversation. No need to make them inquisitive.....
