Docs that are pro gun won't ask the question even if they're required to by their employer.

Docs that ask the question are almost always anti's.

      +1

I have Kaiser health insurance. I have 3 kids, I am a type 1 diabetic and my daughter suffers from really bad eczema and food/pet allergies. So we are no stranger to going to the doctors. Ive never been asked this question ever, wether it be ER, Urgent care, regular walk in, or regular scheduled annual check ups and we've seen hundreds of different doctors/nurses/staff etc through the years.

        "No" as insurance fraud?

I understand the desire not to divulge information, but consider this: the state already knows whether you own guns.

If insurance companies ever decide to cross check your answers with the state firearm registration database, they can find out if you're lying about firearm ownership.

In the future, I would not put it past California (and other states) to impose higher premiums for gun owners and perhaps even a penalty for lying to your doctor about gun ownership as a type of insurance fraud.

It would be like falsely answering "no" to having a prior motor vehicle accident/DUI on a car insurance application. Pardon the imperfect analogy since I'm comparing a real offense with a constitutionally protected right. I'm focusing on the legal and financial implications of a deliberately false answer from the insurer's perspective.

Just tell them " thats not applicable to this situation... but I will tell you that 4 of my snipers have their scopes trained on you at this very second..."

No = None of your business and completely irrelevant to this visit.

CA hates guns and gun owners. While some docs may be gun friendly, the system in CA is not. Wintemute and his minions are busy spending $5 million of our tax dollars to draw as many possible correlations with gun violence.

Nothing good will come from being flagged as a gun owner in your medical records.

Hahaha true. But putting something on a form means its going in a database, that nowadays is probably easily seached, tracked, and linked to another database.

The efficient side of me says that how you respond to this serves as a good clue to your doctor on whether to prescribe some diuretics and ace inhibitors.

So true and is the real reason people are being asked about guns.

Just wait until they tell gun owners you'll no longer be covered by health insurance because you're considered high risk. Want insurance? Get rid of your guns.

Or at a bare minimum they'll double or triple your premiums.

You don't think you are already in a database?

I’ve told them “if you were educated you would be more concerned about swimming pools”. You get a nasty look. Or ask them one of my favorite jokes. What’s the difference between god and a doctor? God doesn’t think he’s a doctor.

Oh I'm sure we're all in plenty of databases but you can always be in one more and that just provides one more connection that can be made.

AMA guildlines. Doctors are not confident, competent to stray from AMA . To avoid malpractice and have insurance, docs just blindly follow AMA.
