Know a few people who moved to AZ. They liked it at first - nice polite people, affordable houses, generally much safer. After 3 or 4 years of 8 months of heat and trying to cram in outdoor things before 10 am before it gets too hot, they've had it. Many want to get out, but they can't. Know several who can't sell their house for what they paid for it because buyers can buy something brand new.

I closed escrow on my house in Reno on 1 March 2014, so I have been here a little over four years. Yes, the climate is totally different from where I used to live in Pismo Beach, however, getting used to the difference is part of acclimating. I can't say that I enjoy driving in the snow, but I have learned how and it doesn't bother me. the weather in Pismo was pretty much the same boring thing day after day, never real cold and never very warm. I enjoy the summers here as everyday is shorts, t-shirt and sandals as the uniform of the day.Folks just do your research and be careful. Climates are changing in states and so are social conditions. be prepared to blend in and not try to turn their community into another California. be prepared to give up your way of life here and it sounds like many of you are. We should be more interested in comments from people who have been someplace at least six months and what the advantages and drawbacks are for everything since most of you are talking moving families and schools, homes, jobs, and futures. Maybe those who have moved need to have access to us to help people make the right choices. if this state is truly beyond redemption then the survivors need all the information they can get.
There are a lot more things to your quality of life than having the same insipid weather day after day. Just not having to pay state income tax saves me 10% at tax time. Cheaper gas means that I have more money from day to day to put towards other things that I actually want to spend money on. Property tax is about 70% of what it would be in Commiefornia and vehicle registration is far, far less. All that adds up to money that I can spend as I chose rather than giving it to a bunch of socialists that want to use it to buy more votes.
I guess it depends on whether you are emotionally capable of adapting to a different mindset and environment.MLC member.

In the last year I have found affordable housing, mainly mobile homes, in the area I have been looking at (Gardnerville area south of reno). finding a small retirement home stick built is not easy but I am patient and i would recommend the same for others no matter where they look. I have fewer living requirements than family people but check out the last five years of school growth, health care, taxes, etc and the projected increases for the future five years. real east people sell homes and you need to provide a future for your family. those goals do not always mesh. And i am probably just preaching to the choir as they say.Comment

If I were serious about moving anywhere, I'd find an RE agent based on local reputation, number of sales in the last year or 2 at asking price or above, and time on the market.
I would not consider a part-timer.True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

We almost bought into a large property and were promised I can shoot into BLM land behind it. Good thing I checked on the county maps and found out that land past the property line was another private property!sigpic

What are you smoking? Both the UK and Sweden are run by a bunch of socialist liberals that have removed the right to defend yourself and, at least in Great Britian, all those evil guns in the hands of their subjects.
I would suggest that before you make such stupid statements that you do some research.

Knives
It is illegal to:
sell a knife of any kind to anyone under 18 years old (16 to 18 year olds in Scotland can buy cutlery and kitchen knives)
carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, e.g. a Swiss Army knife (a "lock knife" does not come into the category of "folding pocket knife" because it is not immediately foldable at all times)
carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife
use any knife in a threatening way (including a legal knife, such as a Swiss Army knife)
Good reasons for carrying a knife
Examples of good reasons to carry a knife in public can include:
taking knives you use at work to and from work
taking knives to a gallery or museum to be exhibited
the knife is going to be used for theatre, film, television, historical reenactment or religious purposes, e.g. the kirpan some Sikhs carry
A court will decide if you’ve got a good reason to carry a knife if you’re charged with carrying it illegally.
Banned knives
Examples of knives that are completely banned are:
disguised knife
stealth knife & baton
sword
zombie knife
This is not a complete list of banned knives and weapons. Contact your local police to check if a knife or weapon is illegal.
Yeah I will get on that right away !Last edited by ja308; 07-19-2018, 2:32 PM.Comment

Damn straight I'm butthurt! For various reasons I'm indeed stuck in this state for the forseeable future.I have a lot of respect for you here but you have to know how ridiculous this sounds.
To the rest of the whiners here, get over it. No one is forcing any of you to read these threads, you're just butthurt because for one reason or another you can't leave.
I've been gone a little over a year and I got a lot of info and motivation HERE!
But I enjoy the posts from elsewhere, and I certainly don't blame people for leaving, nor do I want a Cal(only)guns.net. In fact I think we need more people from free America posting on here, otherwise we become a bunch of subjects who somehow think that a roster & waiting period is a normal thing.
In the past I've seen threads such as:
* If I go shooting together with my nephew, do we have to go to a gunshop & fill out a transfer form, and then fill it out again at the end of the range trip?
* The AW registration law just passed yesterday, so can I register today?
* Can I buy a replacement trigger & have it mailed directly to me?
* The 10/30 AR mags are illegal because they are 7" long, right?
* If I go shooting with my buddy, can I legally give him some ammo?
* How much ammo can I buy? How much can I store? Do they want fingerprints or just valid ID?
I don't blame people for not knowing the answers, what bugs me is the mentality behind even asking these questions. If anyone asked these questions in Iowa or Nebraska, etc, they would just get laughed at. But yet these are valid situations in this state. I don't see how the fight can be won when even gun owners have this "california thinking" ingrained into them. We need more people from free America to remind us what freedom is really like, not the faux freedom we have here.Last edited by kcheung2; 07-19-2018, 9:12 PM.---------------------

Congrats to the OP. I too enjoy life away from CA and loving it, happiest I 've been in many years.
I have been so busy relocating, shooting and guns have taken a backseat for a few months. I did buy a 20 gauge Mossberg Shockwave shortly after moving to DFW, and I just got a G43 last week at Riflegear in Plano (awesome store). I have booked my LTC course for next week to get my carry permit process in motion. I'm also in the process of setting up a trust for Class III stuff.
To those who think I "ran away", I tend to think of it as escaping a f***ed up prison camp. For years, my wife and I were terribly unhappy living in CA. And history of man is rooted in man's quest for something better in their lives, hence the term "migration". CA was created by such folks ya know..._______________
