Funny thing is, just a few months ago posts like this would be pummeled with negative comments from Calgunners who couldn't or wouldn't leave the state.

More evidence that Calgunners are leaving the state AND choosing to hang out in Calguns.

Yes maybe we could use a "Free State Gloating" forum. Maybe even a "Free America" forum. Problem solved. Or maybe move the posts to GD.

I am all for people who actually pick up and move to a better place, but here is a news flash: Gunbroker shows us what is out there and how much it costs. We see ads from Cabelas, Academy, Sportsmans Warehouse, etc.

Coming back here to rub it in our faces adds nothing and does not actually help us. It just satisfies some peoples' need for bragging, gloating, maybe even a little ant-burning. Nobody likes that. As children, we are taught not to do that.

I never complain when people report that the weather is bad/not so bad, the summers are humid/not so humid, or that invariably the people are nice. That is informative.

It's the gloating that annoys me.

I also wonder why people who move don't move on to their new home state gun sites? Are they not welcome? Why are they not busy making new friends? Maybe it is true that nobody likes it when Californians move in.

It would be interesting to know the stats on the CA exodus. I suspect from looking at the anecdotes that a lot of the people choosing to leave are people who are also net tax payers; the Leia lesson.

Don't read the thread, click the back button it is really that simple. Many other state gun forums are not very active and people over the years made friends on CGN or are just used to posting here. There is a lot of non CA related info here.

And yes many in other states hate Californians moving to their states with some of that hate being justified some of the time.

I lived in Waldron, AR, back when Hillary was governor, I mean, Bill. We all knew who was making the decisions tho.

I can't say I'd ever go back to AR but I'm so ready to leave the cesspool that is CA. Fortunately I'm in charge of IT so I'm setting everything up to allow people to work remotely. So many people have taken advantage of it already and are now working from other states. I hope to be one of the next on the list.

Texas has no state income tax and is close to my family in OK. Hellllooooo Texas.

I'm in tech and just switched to a remote position, same deal. House closes in August. I would have had Alaska and Texas on my shortlist but I have family back home, so I'll just be returning to my home state.

I don't think going home counts as a retreat anyway.

Wife and I are looking around, we will be moving in about 16 months +/- a few. Been taking vacations to different states but its really had to figure out with one week vacations if that is really where we want to move. Texas, Arizona are top on our list right now, Louisiana is next mostly because I used to travel there for work so much and my wife loves the humid weather (I can't get rid of her, I am used to being with her).

Realistically, we wont move anywhere based on a weeks vacation, so likely will be 2 or 3 years before the big move.

There's an old saying: "Vote with your feet". If you don't like what is happening with your city, county, or state, take your tax dollars and move on down the road. Politicians feel the loss of tax dollars.

Edit: That is the purpose of having 50 states, each an experiment in democracy.

California's gun owners are unable nor have they ever been able to organize and "fight".

Do you think "a good thing" might be better schools for kids, or lower taxes, or far better schools. If none of those, how about a state that simply emulates the Founding Fathers designing the United States by using the Constitution, Bible, and Bill of Rights?

Many prefer to ski and surf on the same day. $$$ are great if you're in the tech field, but it never was worth it to me with commute times, taxes, and crowds at the beach.

They still get their money. I heard prop tax is high and so is truck registration.

If you can afford it, take a 2-3 month vacation and rent a VRBO or AirBnB at the locale you think you like. If the place has four seasons, be sure to rent during the worst months, i.e. January - February for snow country, August - September for hot climates. Staying in a hotel just does not cut it. Having to deal with the weather, doing daily chores, commuting, shopping, interacting with the locals, etc. can give you a much needed insight.
