As soon as I read this I knew the loud mouth clerk must be from the shop on east Tropicana. "The Gun Store". What a dump it was in 2011 when I stoped by.Yes it is different. But it doesn't mean that it would prevent rabid leftists from filing a tax payer funded frivolous lawsuit like they did with Exile. I don't think it's too far fetched to believe that just the mere threat of this could cause some retailers to start asking for ID. FUD and ignorance of Ca complex gun laws also exasperates the problem.
I also seem to recall members here reporting that they were ID'd when buying mags in Vegas gun stores when they were suspected of being from Ca.
Hopefully someone with direct experience with this can opine
This was during the SSE days. I was talking to a young man and asking him if they would ship to a Calif ffl for the sse process, when some biker looking dude (leather vest, tats and all) behind the counter started barking sheet about illegal this and that, said I was spreading "misinformation" in a loud and demeaning tone. Exactly like described ^^^.
My reply with same tone as his was: I was not talking to you, and you do not sound like you know what you are talking about at all. I would not spend a dime here if you work here. He changed colors a couple of times and went quiet, I walked out.
Far better places to shop in Vegas and they all shipped to Ca.Comment

Well, since my reply was in response to the comment that FFLS get skittish any time CA comes up on their radar and was not specific to the new ammo laws it's only irrelevant if you failed to understand the discussion. But just to make you happy, I will add the example of the case of ammo that I have arriving from out of state next week.I didnt fail to understand anything. You said you had no issues buying firearms and ammo out of state in past years. Well, obviously no one would have had any issues buying ammo out of state. The law wasn't in effect yet. I bet no one had issues transporting it back either.Proof of this is the fact that I purchase firearms and ammo out of state pretty much every year with no issues.
An example of what ? That you are exempt because of your FFL 03.I will add the example of the case of ammo that I have arriving from out of state next week.[/__________________________________________________ _____________

My brother and I talked about opening an ammo shop just on the other side of the river in Az. Maybe if ammo prices start going crazy it'll start to make more sense, or after the next set of ammo laws kick in and enough people don't wanna partake in the BS.Comment

Apple's and orange's comparison. Show me what law is being violated by purchasing ammo or large cap mags for that matter in another state by a Ca resident. The crime occurs when it crosses the state line, not at the time of sale.Comment

What I was posting was the information provided in the law and in keeping with the forum rules (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=38467) of not posting about or condoning illegal activities.Yeah, I don't think it's me that's getting dramatic here. I was alluding to jeremiah12's reference, which may be correct but it's totally impractical to enforce unless you're coming back with a trunk load of ammo.
You can't bring any ammo purchased out of state, but nobody is going to roust anybody for a box or two of ammo. Just no way that's going to happen. How is anyone going to know where I purchased the rounds in my magazine?
Nobody can for sure that no one is going to get jacked up for just a box or two of ammo. I had access to listen to talks given by Dr. Wintemute at the UC Med. Center. I used to work as a research scientist in academia so I can dress the part and blend it. My son attends UC Davis and my sister works as a lab tech at the Med Center so I had access to the seminar schedules. I also had use of an ID to get into the building where the seminars were held.
Dr. Wintemute is the enemy. He had limited funds before as he only had his money and private foundation money. He could not get public funding for many years. Then the state legislature created the firearms violence research center, gave it 5 million dollars and put him in charge. He loves to set up sting operations and catch the easy targets. He does not have to worry about making money for the state or covering the costs of enforcement by catching enough people violating the laws that the fines pay for the enforcement. He pays for the overtime so he can collect his data. If his group spends one day and catches two or three people who bought a couple of boxes of ammo each at Cabalas and drove back to CA, he will use that to write and promote more anti-gun laws.
Dr. Wintemute is the person behind the scenes that has had a hand in writing the majority of the anti-gun laws and has testified to get most of them passed. He is now the official gun safety expert for the state because that was the title and job given to the new firearms violence policy center. Part of his duty is to advise the CA legislator.
He has interns on CalGuns to monitor what is said here so anything that can help his cause will be used.
I know the border has lots of roads that do not have agriculture inspection stations. From my offloading excursions, I know of many roads that cross the border that are not paved or even marked on maps. 40 years ago to earn some extra money for the family, I helped my step-father with smuggling a legal product into CA because it was taxed at a much higher rate inside than outside the state. I do not want to engage in any sort of illegal activity today because I have a job to protect, a family, and getting close to retirement. I can legally buy ammo out of state and bring it back because I have a FFL and COE. I will not risk my freedom for non-family.
Lots of ammo is coming into this state right now. Some by those that do not know it is illegal to do so and some by people that know what they are doing is illegal.
The ammo laws are a feel good knee jerk reaction that do nothing to increase safety and in fact likely reduce it. The law abiding give up and are less able to defend themselves from the criminals.
The people that will get caught are the ones that will get pulled over for something else and not even think about the ammo. They will be the ones not paying attention to who is around them when buying ammo, and then at the ag. inspection station is met by a CHP officer who asks about ammo. Th officer will present a picture of you buying a box of ammo at a store in Reno and tell you either I search now, or you step out of the car, we lock it up for a few hours and you sit out here in the hot sun until the judge signs the search warrant, then I will search your car. At that time, your car will be towed to the impound yard to be properly searched. You will get to pay impound fees.
I work at a job when I deal with stupid people who do stupid things all the time and I see first hand the results.
This is a law that the majority can violate and the percent that will be caught will be in the single digits. Using some common sense and a bit of precaution, anyone can greatly lower the probability of being caught.
I am sure soon someone will post on here they want help because they were caught bringing ammo into the state. In all likelihood, they will have done something to draw attention to themselves and the whole thing could have been avoided.
I thumb my nose at many of CA BS laws, I just chose to not advertise online which laws and how I do it. Do not mistake my stating what the law as written says for my opinion of that law or for how I personally plan to deal with that law.
Finally, I find the stories of having to show ID to buy ammo and large capacity magazines in NV to be hilarious. As a teacher, I get summers off and I do spend that time traveling. I have purchased lots of ammo and mags in NV and have never been asked for ID. My step-father lives in ID and I visit him often and I have never been asked for ID there either. We do talk about the stupidity of CA laws. My step-father was born in ID, moved out to CA and several years ago moved back. He said he finally got smart in his old age. I am planning to escape soon myself. I thought I would wait for retirement, but that is too far away, so I am looking for a job and as soon as I find one, I am waving bye.Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.
A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.
Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

I'm having a bit of trouble finding where I made any comparison to modding a compliant rifle into an assault weapon, to purchasing ammo out of state. I made a grand total of 2 posts to this thread (not counting this one) and don't see me saying that.
Sounds more like your just arguing to argue than anything else, because you don't have a leg to stand on. Also I'm not sure you have a basic grasp of federal law that prohibit's the delivery of a handgun to a non-resident of the state they are buying it in.
You do seem to want to lump everyone just buying ammo into the criminal category without any proof of criminal act's or intent. Nice to meet you Gavin.

So how exactly does that sales person know that a law will be violated. There are many CA residents that can legally bring these items back into CA. There are also many CA residents that have second homes or family out of state and keep items at these locations.
You claim to not be paranoid, but there you go.

Just because they don't know doesn't mean they won't say no. How does that even show me being paranoid? LOL I've purchased many times out of state and in state. You must get off to every chance you get to list different loopholes don't you?So how exactly does that sales person know that a law will be violated.
