Because any sales person has the right to deny a sale if they don't feel comfortable making that sale. What part of that do you not understand?

If you're really gonna argue with a sales person in another state as hard as you're arguing this, you have to much time on your hands big dawg.

Nobody can for sure that no one is going to get jacked up for just a box or two of ammo. ...*snip* ...so I am looking for a job and as soon as I find one, I am waving bye.
I understand Jeremiah, and I wasn't disputing your post at all. Just adding my own feelings on what can and cannot practically be enforced. When we type stuff we often leave side thoughts out for the sake of brevity, I guess what I was mostly getting at is that most of these laws are so poorly written that practically nobody can understand them.

Of course I don't want to be the test case or the guinea pig, but I am willing to bet the first case we hear about will be someone trying to bring multiple cases of ammo in and are pulled over originally for speeding or expired tags etc. We'll see I guess.

As far as the last part about waving bye, nobody can blame you for that... you're certainly not the only one here thinking along those lines.

As long as you tell them that they don't know what you're gonna do with them, it's okay! Make sure to tell sales person that the customer is always right and that you want to speak with a manager too.

Dont worry gentlemen, I have written a formal letter to the DOJ and asked if it was okay for out of state ffls to sell ammo to CA residents while in their state.

                    I need clarification on this!

Hopefully our DOJ can regulate out of state ffls as well so its fair for all CA gun owners.

I also called the CHP and asked if they have any plans to actively seek out CA residents crossing state lines with out of state ammunition.

Hopefully working with our state law enforcement we can clear this thread up and get us some answers!

Allow me to predict the answer:

CADOJ has no jurisdiction over the laws or actions of others in states outside California. Irrespective of the legality of the purchase, no California resident can purchase ammunition in another state and import it into the state of California without meeting the requirement proscribed in California law.

Just got back from Vegas yesterday after a week attending CES and spending some time participating in ‘extracurricular’ activities at various ranges and stores in the LV area. Got waved through at the Yermo checkpoint. Nothing’s changed as far as I can tell.

My take on the ban on importation of ammo is that it’s virtually unenforceable.

Beyond that, given the very low level of a violation, I simply do not see the state spending the money on any kind of mass enforcement effort.

So maybe if you run up to a CHP sitting eating lunch at the Mad Greek in Baker and slap down a couple of boxes of ammo on his table and tell him proudly you just bought this is Las Vegas and you live in California, well then maybe he'll take the time to write a citation. Short of that, I would not lose any sleep worrying about this.
