      Type of holster?

It does kinda bug me when I see OCers wearing the fashionable friction-fit or plastic snap-in holsters. With those, it's all too easy to snatch a gun before the wearer even knows there's someone behind them. Carry responsibly.

It was a tan leather belt-slide with a strap.

Rural Oregon I saw it pretty often. One nice thing about places where open carry is legal is that if you're CC and somehow it shows, you didn't break any laws.

That is because there was no robbery occurring. If YOU walked in and were intent on robbing the place.. who would YOU deal with first? Its not rocket science...

Typically, probably just wait for the joint to clear out. If you think otherwise, citation needed.

Criminals are risk-averse. That is why burglars typically by-pass occupied homes and target homes with no one home.
So the odds are that someone coming in to rob the place would leave and pick an establishment they are less likely to die in.

                  Ever tried it?

I typically wear a leather belt slide with a snap, but have worn Bladetech, LAG, and Safariland kydex. Never felt particularly at-risk, although I did switch to using mostly Safariland ALS or GLS holsters when open carry. Turns out when you wear a gun driving around in a car all day it can work loose in the holster and can find its way out.

Probably, but you are making the assumption that all would be armed robbers are rational, intelligent and risk adverse.

Taking a look at common street criminals today as seen in the courts and in police dash cam / body cam video.. that argument can't be made. Just saying...I personally never play poker with all my cards showing...

It bears mentioning that a TN permit is a CARRY permit. Besides being a State-level "shall issue" State, we're open carry. No legal requirement to conceal here. I see several people open carrying here every week without looking for them.

All to easy for some methhead sheet-head to approach from behind and stick a Home Depot $12.99 insulation knife between your ribs, OC or no OC.

No one could have snatched his gun from behind.
                          I was standing behind him.

I spend quite a bit of time in eastern Oregon and it is very common to see pickups with gun racks in the back window and a rifle or shotgun (or both) in then...even in a...gasp....school zone.

Last trip up there I got back to the hotel and unloaded my truck. Had already marched most of my gear upstairs including my rifle case.

The parking lot had folks walking around, but I said what the heck and slung my rifle over my shoulder and walked up to my room.

Halfway to the stairs I past a a couple and the man asks, "do any good"?

Once you leave CA, most states...especially more rural areas...it is quite common to see folks with firearms.

Yes, I used to live a little east of La Pine; guns are tools in places like that, and people understand their utility.

                                OMG! Open carry!

The biggest thing I like about my state being open carry , and permitless carry legal even though I do have a permit, is it doesn't matter to me and I could give two two ****s if I print or accidentally expose my concealed weapon. Nobody cares, and no laws are broken.
